A forced-draft pre-mix burner device has a housing that conveys air from an upstream cool air inlet to a downstream warm air outlet. A heat exchanger warms the air prior to discharge via the warm air outlet. A gas burner burns an air-gas mixture to thereby warm the heat exchanger. A fan mixes the air-gas mixture and forces the air-gas mixture into the gas burner. The fan has a plurality of blades having sinusoidal-modulated blade spacing.

An intake system is for a marine drive. The intake system comprises a throttle device that receives intake air for combustion; an intake conduit that conveys the intake air to the throttle device, wherein the intake conduit has an upstream inlet end, a downstream outlet end, and a radially outer surface that extends from the upstream inlet end to the downstream outlet end; and an intake silencer coupled to the radially outer surface and configured to attenuate sound emanating from the intake system.

A stern drive arrangement is for propelling a marine vessel in water. A diverter valve is movable into and between an open position in which the exhaust gas is allowed to flow through the above-water outlet via the secondary exhaust conduit and a closed position in which the exhaust gas is at least partially prevented from flowing through an above-water outlet via a secondary exhaust conduit. Via a bypass conduit, the exhaust gas in the secondary exhaust conduit can bypass the diverter valve and discharge to atmosphere when the diverter valve is in the closed position.

An outboard motor has an adapter plate that supports an internal combustion engine, a driveshaft housing disposed below the adapter plate, and a lower cowl. A lower cowl volume is defined between the adapter plate, cowl and driveshaft housing. A lower cowl volume inlet is configured to supply idle relief exhaust gases to the lower cowl volume and a lower cowl volume outlet is configured to discharge idle relief exhaust gases from the lower cowl volume to atmosphere. The lower cowl volume is configured to cause expansion of the relief exhaust gases prior to discharge of the idle relief exhaust gases to atmosphere.

An apparatus and method for constructing a flywheel assembly is disclosed. The flywheel assembly includes a flywheel hub that is constructed to engage a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. A ferrous ring is attached to the flywheel hub with an elastomer ring positioned therebetween. The elastomer ring isolates the ferrous ring from the flywheel hub such that the ferrous ring resonates at a frequency that substantially reduces the amplitude of the resonance of the crankshaft and flywheel. Such a construction effectively dampens the torsional resonance of the engine and provides for smoother operation.
