A well system includes a perforating gun having shaped charges and a detonator to controllably detonate the shaped charges. The well system further includes a propulsion head coupled to the perforating gun. The propulsion head is operable to apply thrust to the perforating gun such that the well system is self-propelling.

Self-propelling perforating gun system

An apparatus includes a string that extends into a well and a tool that is disposed in the string. The tool is adapted to form a seat to catch an object communicated to the tool via a passageway of the string in response to the tool being perforated.

Method and apparatus for completing a multi-stage well

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes a first component and a second component. The first component is adapted to dissolve at a first rate, and the second component is adapted to contact the first component to perform a downhole operation and dissolve at a second rate that is different from the first rate.

A technique includes running a seat assembly on a conveyance line into a tubing string, which has previously been installed in a well. The seat assembly includes a seat, which is adapted to receive an untethered object. The technique includes attaching the seat assembly to the string at a location downhole in the well; receiving the object to create a fluid barrier; and diverting fluid using the fluid barrier.

Completing a multi-stage well

A technique that is usable with a well includes deploying a seat assembly into a tubing string; releasing the seat assembly at a downhole location inside the tubing string; pumping the seat assembly to a restriction in the tubing string at a second downhole location; and using an untethered object received in a seat assembly to form an obstruction in the tubing string.

Deploying an expandable downhole seat assembly

A perforating gun technique. The technique includes perforating with the gun in a manner that deforms internal support structure thereof. Thus, follow-on treatment with a breakup fluid tailored to the material of the support structure may be utilized to dissolve the structure. The carrier of the gun which houses the structure may then be utilized as a conduit for fluid flow.

Substantially degradable perforating gun technique

A technique includes deploying a seat assembly having a plurality of segments into a tubing string installed in a well and expanding the seat assembly at a downhole location in the well to secure the assembly to the tubing string and form a seat that is adapted to receive an untethered object. The technique includes receiving the untethered object in the seat of the seat assembly and using the received untethered object in the seat assembly to perform a downhole operation in the well.

Expandable downhole seat assembly

A system and methodology facilitates creation of perforations along a wellbore. The technique utilizes a perforating gun system having cooperating components, such as a carrier, a loading system, and a plurality of shaped charges. The cooperating components are constructed to break down into multiple smaller pieces upon detonation of the plurality of shaped charges. This allows the perforating gun system to effectively disappear within the wellbore such that any remaining small pieces do not interfere with well flow and/or later interventions.

A technique that is usable with a well includes communicating a stabilized treatment slurry downhole into the well and dehydrating a portion of the slurry to form a barrier in the well.

Technique and apparatus to form a downhole fluid barrier

A technique that is usable with a well includes deploying a plurality of location markers in a passageway of the well and deploying an untethered object in the passageway such that the object travels downhole via the passageway. The technique includes using the untethered object to sense proximity of at least some of the location markers as the object travels downhole, and based on the sensing, selectively expand its size to cause the object to become lodged in the passageway near a predetermined location.

Self-locating downhole devices

A technique includes deploying a string that includes a seat assembly in a well; and running a shifting tool in a passageway of the string. The shifting tool shifts the seat assembly to cause the seat assembly to transition between a first state in which the seat assembly forms a seat that is adapted to allow an untethered object communicated in the passageway of the string to pass through the seat assembly to a second state in which the seat assembly is adapted to catch the object to form a fluid barrier in the string. The fluid barrier is used to divert fluid in the tubing string to perform, for example, a stimulation operation.

Method and apparatus for deploying and using self-locating downhole devices

Systems and methods for downhole completions. A downhole running tool can have a body having a bore formed therethrough. A latch member can be disposed on a first portion of the body. A reset member can be disposed on a second portion of the body. A conduit can be formed within a sidewall of the body. The conduit can be located between the first and second portions of the body. A pressure relief port can be disposed at a first end of the conduit; and a first flow port can be disposed at a second end of the conduit. The pressure relief port and first flow port can be in communication with an outer diameter of the body.
