A network access node (eNodeB for example) changing status from active to deactivated sends a message to a location server indicating the changed status. The location server collects from uplink messages indications of which of a plurality of cells have a deactivated status and stores this information in its local memory. Then the location server utilizes the stored indications to ensure that all cells in a list provided to a user equipment for location assistance will have an active status. In various embodiments: the message is sent only when the status is changed for energy saving purposes; a list of cells included in a location request message may have some deactivated cells so the location server sends a message to the eNodeB to activate deactivated cells in the list which is done prior to providing the list to a user equipment; and a partial-activation for a probing/beacon mode is disclosed.

Reactivating cells to improve positioning accuracy

Apparatus, methods, computer program products, and software are disclosed providing reduction of interference occurring sometime after a capacity booster cell activates, where a coverage area of a capacity booster cell is at least partially within a coverage area of a coverage cell. Techniques include handing off user equipment from the coverage cell to the capacity booster cell, creating by the capacity booster cell scheduling gaps in subframes of radio frames and scheduling user equipment connected to the capacity booster cell in the subframes not in the gaps, scheduling communications for user equipment connected to the coverage cell in the gaps, and performing one or more operations to reduce interference with the capacity booster cell for uplink transmissions from user equipment to the coverage cell.

Interference reduction through cell activation methods in heterogeneous networks

A method includes determining, at a first cell and for a selected user equipment, a second cell would have a better performing RF interface connection with the selected user equipment than the selected user equipment currently has with the first cell. The first cell can provide radio frequency coverage for the second cell. The method includes sending to the second cell one or more messages indicating the second cell should not enter or be in an energy saving state at least while the selected user equipment or a selected user application on the selected user equipment is connected to the second cell. Another method includes determining a cell should not enter an energy saving state at least while a selected user equipment is connected to the cell; and the cell not entering the energy saving state at least while the selected user equipment is connected to the cell.

Activate ES cell for particular UE(s)

An exemplary method includes communicating an indication corresponding to at least a length of time it should take to reactivate a cell from an energy savings level corresponding to the indication to a fully activated state, and placing the cell into the energy savings level corresponding to the indication. Another method includes selecting an energy savings level for a cell, the energy savings level corresponding to a length of time it should take to reactivate the cell from the energy savings level to a fully activated state, and communicating to the cell an indication corresponding to at least the length of time it should take to reactivate a cell from the selected energy savings to the fully activated state. Apparatus and program products are also disclosed.

Enabling different base station ES levels based on time to activate cell

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for backhauling data in a communication system ( ). A plurality of quality metrics are received at a centralized controller ( ) from a plurality of base stations ( ). The quality metrics are related to a data frame transmitted to the base stations ( ) from a remote unit ( ). A preferred data frame is determined from among the data frames. The centralized controller ( ) then signals the base station associated with the preferred data frame to send the preferred data frame to the centralized controller.

Method and apparatus for backhauling data in a communication system

A method for updating power control at a base transceiver station in a communication system is provided. A base transceiver station transmits a signal frame. A mobile station receives the signal frame. The mobile station determines whether the signal frame was accurately received and sets a metric bit in a quality metric. The metric bit indicates whether the signal frame was received correctly by the mobile station. The mobile station transmits the quality metric, which is received by the base transceiver station. It is then determined whether to update power control, the determination based at least in part upon the quality metric.

Method for updating forward power control in a communication system

A communication system (101) concentrates the output of variable rate transcoders (XCDRs 203, 206, 209) to realize an increase in T1 Megastream link capacity. Line interface cards (212, 213) multiplex a generic transcoder/rate adapter unit (GTRAU) format to a concentrated transcoder/rate adapter unit (CTRAU) format based on a determined rate of the data being output from the variable rate transcoders (XCDRs 203, 206, 209). An increase in T1 Megastream link capacity is realized by efficiently concentrating full, half, quarter, and eighth rate channels into a single DS0 for transmission over the T1 Megastream.

Method and apparatus for transferring data in a communication system

A differential coherent modulation and demodulation method and apparatus non-coherently modulates (201) a data stream to generate non-coherently modulated data. The non-coherently modulated data is phase modulated (215) with a supplementary signal (211) to generate coded data. The coded data is then transmitted. A receiver (301) then receives the coded data. A non-coherent demodulator accepts the received coded data as input and demodulates the coded data to provide the original data and the supplementary signal (327).
