A method, apparatus, and system are provided for implementing debug data saving in host memory on a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIE) solid state drive (SSD). Upon Power Loss Interruption (PLI) event detected in a solid state drive (SSD), the SSD transfers debug data directly to the host system main (DRAM) memory via a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIE) bus.

Salvaging event trace information in power loss interruption (PLI) scenarios, for use in solid-state drive (SSD) and hard disk drive (HDD) storage devices. If volatile state information that is salvaged after an inadvertent power loss were to include event trace information, then such information can provide a valuable debug resource. Event trace information from volatile memory is copied to a second memory upon a power on which is in response to a PLI event. A corrupt state of context reconstruction data stored on non-volatile memory is detected, and an indication of the corrupt state is set. The event trace information is passed to the host if requested based on the indication.

Salvaging event trace information in power loss interruption scenarios

A method and controller for implementing dynamic banding of a storage device, such as a Self Encrypting Device (SED) in a data storage array, and a design structure on which the subject controller circuit resides are provided. The controller dynamically identifies band boundaries for the storage device at the time a data storage array is created, when one or more devices are added into an existing data storage array, and when a replacement device is rebuilt into an exposed array, or an array with a failed device. A storage device band definition is provided based upon the dynamically identified band boundaries for the storage device.
