A conjugated or partially conjugated polymer including a structural unit of Formula I in the backbone: (Formula I), wherein Arl, Arare each independently a substituted or unsubstituted arylene or hetero arylene group with two or more aromatic rings fused together and Ar3 is an aryl or heteroaryl group of C4 to C40 or substituted aryl or heteroaryl group of C4 to C40 and devices containing such polymer. In addition, a composition of: (Formula V), wherein Ar, Arare arylene or heteroaryl groups and Ar3 is an aryl or heteroaryl group and wherein X is a leaving group such as halogen, boronic acid or boronate ester.

Crosslinkable substituted fluorene compounds and conjugated oligomers or polymers based thereon

A halogenated bisdiarylaminopolycyclic aromatic compound, polymers made therefrom, and polymeric light emitting diode devices using the polymers are described. The halogenated compound is represented by formula (I), wherein Ar and Ar' are each independently substituted or unsubstituted aryl groups and Z is a polycyclic arylene group, wherein at least one of the Ar&#x2032; groups is a haloaryl group. Devices using polymers prepared from the halogenated compound exhibit improved performance and longer lifetime, presumably as a result of the presence of the geometrically constrained diarylaminopolycyclic aromatic groups in the polymer backbone. 

Halogenated bisdiarylaminopolycyclic aromatic compounds and polymers thereof

The present invention relates to a method for preparing polymeric films, preferably electroactive films, with enhanced physical properties by the steps of applying to a substrate a solution of a polymer containing pendant labile solubilizing groups, then removing the solvent and a sufficient concentration of the labile solubilizing groups render the polymer less soluble in the solvent than before the labile groups were removed. It is believed that the removal of pendant soluble groups a) permits optimization of the semiconducting backbone for charge transport performance, b) allows direct control of microstructure in the final film, and c) renders the final film more robust during subsequent process steps needed to construct multilayer devices.

Fluorene-containing polymers and compounds useful in the preparation thereof

An organic block polymer useful in an electroluminescent polymer device (or in a polymer field effect transistor) that includes an emissive polymer block that is consistently conjugated along the backbone of the emissive polymer block (e.g., a copolymer of 2,7-linked 9,9 dioctyl fluorene and 4,7-linked 2,1,3 benxothiadiazole); and a positive charge carrier polymer block that is consistently conjugated along the backbone of the positive charge carrier polymer block (e.g., a copolymer of 2,7-linked 9,9 dioctyl fluorene and 4N, 4N&prime;-linked N,N&prime;-di(3-carboxomethoxyphenyl)benzidine) for transporting positive charge carriers to the emissive polymer block so that the positive charge carriers can combine with negative charge carriers to generate light.

Electroactive polymers and devices made therefrom

An organic OLED having a cathode formed from a first conducting layer, an electroluminescent layer including an oxadiazole compound, and an anode constructed from a second conducting layer which is transparent to light generated by the electroluminescent layer. In one embodiment, an electron transport layer is sandwiched between the anode and electroluminescent layers. Other embodiments utilize a hole transport layer between the electroluminescent layer and the anode either with or without the electron transport layer. In one embodiment, the anode is constructed from a layer of indium tin oxide and a layer of a hole transport material that bonds to indium tin oxide and which has an energy band intermediate between that of indium tin oxide and that of the hole transport layer.

Fluorene-containing polymers and electroluminescent devices therefrom

The invention relates to 2,7-substituted-9-substituted fluorenes and 9-substituted fluorene oligomers and polymers. The fluorenes, oligomers and polymers are substituted at the 9-position with two hydrocarbyl moieties which may optionally contain one or more of sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous or silicon heteroatoms; a C ring structure formed with the 9-carbon on the fluorene ring or a C ring structure formed with the 9-carbon containing one or more heteroatoms of sulfur, nitrogen or oxygen; or a hydrocarbylidene moiety. In one embodiment, the fluorenes are substituted at the 2- and 7-positions with aryl moieties which may further be substituted with moieties which are capable of crosslinking or chain extension or a trialkylsiloxy moiety. The fluorene polymers and oligomers may be substituted at the 2- and 7&prime;-positions. The monomer units of the fluorene oligomers and polymers are bound to one another at the 2- and 7&prime;-positions. The 2,7&prime;-aryl-9-substituted fluorene oligomers and polymers may be further reacted with one another to form higher molecular weight polymers by causing the optional moieties on the terminal 2,7&prime;-aryl moieties, which are capable of crosslinking or chain extension, to undergo chain extension or crosslinking. Also disclosed are processes for preparing the disclosed compounds.
