A process for producing a discharge vessel of a flat gas discharge lamp, in which the discharge vessel has a base plate (), a frame () and a cover plate (), as well as at least one spacer () between base plate () and cover plate (). At least between one of the plates () and the frame (), at least one space () is initially kept open as a filling opening. By partial fusion of at least a part () of the frame, which may also comprise a layer () of soldering glass and local elevations (), the filling opening () is eliminated after the filling operation. The distance between the vessel plates () is defined by the spacers (), which remain hard even during the joining operation.

A discharge lamp, suitable for operation by means of dielectrically impeded discharge, having a discharge vessel with two at least partially parallel vessel walls (), and at least one spacer () made from optically transparent insulating material. The or each spacer () is in contact with the two vessel walls () via bearing surfaces. The or each spacer has an optically diffuse surface () at least in the region of one bearing surface.

Gas discharge lamp and method for the production thereof

A discharge lamp, suitable for operating by means of a dielectrically impeded discharge, and having metal electrodes arranged on the wall of the discharge vessel has at least one dielectric impeding layer which covers at least a portion of the electrodes. According to the invention, the electrodes are additionally covered directly with a barrier layer, in particular made from sintered glass ceramic, that is to say the barrier layer is, if appropriate, respectively arranged between the electrode and the dielectric impeding layer. The result of this is to prevent metal ions from diffusing out of the electrodes into the dielectric impeding layer and undesirably influencing the properties thereof. Moreover, it is possible in this way to prevent the electrode tracks from evaporating or being sputtered away during operation of the lamp.

Discharge lamp with dielectrically inhibited electrodes

A discharge lamp, suitable for operation by means of dielectrically impeded discharge, having electrodes arranged on the wall of the discharge vessel, has at least one dielectric layer which covers at least a part of the electrodes and, optionally, the discharge vessel wall as well. A phosphor and/or reflective layer is arranged on the at least one dielectric layer. According to the invention, at least the dielectric layer arranged directly underneath the phosphor or reflective layer consists of a glass solder whose viscosity variation as a function of temperature is irreversible, in particular of a sintered glass ceramic. This prevents this layer from re-melting during the fabrication process and thereby tearing the overlying porous reflective and/or phosphor layers.
