Apparatus for removing a burr from an aperture in a workpiece, using a rotating deburring tool having a flexible of partly flexible shaft, an abrasive mechanism that rotates on the shaft and a collar that protects the workpiece from abrasion when the abrasive mechanism is being positioned for deburring. Optionally, the shaft and abrasive mechanism move laterally as they rotate. Optionally, a shaft holder includes a protective surrounding sleeve to catch or deflect any fragment of the shaft holder that might fly off. Optionally, the shaft and the workpiece rotate independently of each other. Two or more different abrasive mechanisms can be simultaneously attached to the shaft. The cross-sectional shape of the abrasive mechanism may be curvilinear and/or polygonal, depending upon shape of the workpiece surface. Optionally, a shaft restrictor receives the shaft and limits lateral motion of the rotating shaft. The shaft optionally includes a rotatable mass that provides additional rotational inertia after the shaft is initially spun up.

Burr removal apparatus

Designs of bottle sets are disclosed to highlight a sign in a transparent container. In one embodiment, a bottle set includes a bottle and a base. A fixture is provided and disposed within the bottle. The fixture includes a light guide extended from an interior bottom of the bottle. The bottle is positioned onto the base, where the base provides a light source lighting of which is guided through the light guide to shine the mark on the fixture.

Apparatus for removing a burr from an edge of a workpiece comprising a rotating shaft, an abrasive mechanism along a distal end portion of the shaft, and a non-abrasive collar provided along the abrasive mechanism. The non-abrasive collar protects the wall of the workpiece from unintentional abrasion while the rotating abrasive mechanism is advanced into position for deburring. A proximal end of the rotating shaft may be attached to a flexible coupling member for allowing the shaft to deflect when a lateral force is exerted on the apparatus by the wall of the workpiece. The cross-sectional shape of the abrasive mechanism may be curvilinear and/or polygonal, depending upon the shape of the edge to be deburred. Two or more different abrasive mechanisms and/or non-abrasive collars can be simultaneously attached to the shaft.

The present invention provides a technique for forming a connection to an object (26) with a shape memory alloy sleeve (4). In the preferred embodiment, the sleeve (4) has a first end (10) with formations on its internal surface for forming a seal with the external surface of an object (26) located within it, and a second end which has a predetermined configuration when recovered in which it can form a connection to another object (30) for engaging the other object (30) to form a connection to that object (30).

Forming a connection to an object

A threadless self-swaging coupling for joining or capping pipe. The coupling includes a coupling member and an actuating member of a heat shrinkable polymer material or a shape memory alloy material which undergoes a change in shape when heated from a martensitic state to an austenitic state. The coupling includes an inner sleeve and an outer ring surrounding the inner sleeve. The outer ring is movable with respect to the inner sleeve such that the inner surface of the inner sleeve is deformed radially inwardly and swaged to a pipe fitted therein when the outer ring is moved with respect to the inner sleeve. The outer ring is engaged with the actuating member such that the outer ring can be rotated with respect to the inner sleeve when the actuating member is heated into the austenitic state. The actuating member can be left in place or removed from the coupling.

A technique for making a connection to an object, for example a tube, comprises positioning a shape memory alloy collar around the tube, the collar having two circumferentially extending teeth formed in its internal surface. One of the teeth is caused to bite into the external surface of the tube by heating the collar to cause it to shrink, using the shape memory properties of the alloy. The other tooth is caused to bite into the external surface of the tube by mechanically deforming the collar by drawing a tapered sleeve axially over it. Axial force can be applied to the tube through the collar.

Method of forming a mechanical

An assembly for forming a mechanical connection to an object, such as a tube within a hydraulic system, comprising a transversely heat-shrinkable shape memory alloy collar having an axially facing surface, a ring having an axially facing surface and a device for retaining the ring and the collar coaxially with respect to one another. In use, the collar is caused to shrink so that it engages the external surface of the tube. Force can be applied axially to the object through the collar by means of the ring.

Assembly for forming a mechanical connection to an object

A device for coupling to an object such as a pipe, particularly for joining pipes together, comprising a tubular sleeve of which at least one end portion has a wall that is weakened to facilitate radial deformation, a shape memory alloy driver having a portion of the sleeve other than the weakened portion positioned in the direction of its recovery, and a collar of a dimensionally heat-recoverable polymeric material having at least part of the weakened portion of the sleeve positioned in the direction of its recovery. Tensile strength or a seal or both between the sleeve and the object is provided by the shape memory alloy driver which deforms the sleeve into sealing contact with the pipes. Relief from transverse strain imposed on the joint between the pipes and the device is provided by the weakened portion of the sleeve which is supported by the collar.

Coupling device

A device for coupling to an object such as a pipe, particularly for joining pipes together, comprising a tubular sleeve of which at least one end portion has positioned on it a collar of dimensionally heat-recoverable polymeric material, and a shape memory alloy driver. Recovery of the driver is arranged to deform one or both of the sleeve and the object into contact with one another. Recovery of the collar is arranged to fill at least partially the radial space between the sleeve and the object so as to provide relief from transverse strain imposed on the joint between the object and the device.
