A radio receiver is disclosed, comprising: a receiving stage configured to receive a multi-layered signal comprising a plurality of layers; a division stage configured to divide the plurality of layers into a first subset and a second subset; a first whitening filter configured to filter the multi-layered signal based on a noise and interference covariance measure derived from the second subset to provide a first filtered multi-layered signal; and a first detection stage configured to detect at least one layer of the first subset based on the first filtered multi-layered signal.

Acquisition and tracking modes for a mobile device assisted multilateration based localization are disclosed. A relative time difference is determined between a positioning reference cell and at least two other detectable positioning cells. A reference signal of a positioning cell is detected to determine timing of a detectable positioning cell by either applying sliding window approach to acquire the positioning cell or a single window approach to track the positioning cell. In an exemplary method, a received signal level is measured for each of one or more subcarriers of a digital subscriber line signal and converted into a corresponding measured power level. A corrected received power level is calculated as a function of the measured power level, a reference input impedance value, a nominal loop impedance value, and a pre-determined input impedance value for the DSL device.
