The invention relates to an arrangement of contact areas and test areas on patterned semiconductor chips. The contact areas and the test areas are electrically connected to one another via a conduction web. Whereas the contact areas are arranged in a first region, which has no components of an integrated circuit, the test areas lie in a second region of the top side of the semiconductor chip, which region has components of an integrated circuit.

A scanning device for semiconductor wafers with which rapid and dependable scanning is permitted. The invention is characterized by a base plate with a guiding pin protruding from it for the manual guidance of a depositing plate which is displaceable on the latter. The depositing plate is intended to receive a semiconductor wafer and is provided on an underside with meandering guiding channels for guiding by the guiding pin. A liquid drop is kept on a surface of the semiconductor wafer by a scanning tube and collects metal and dopant traces from the semiconductor wafer. The liquid drop can then be analyzed for determining a purity of the surface of the semiconductor wafer.

A method for monitoring at least one bit rate of at least one virtual connection, of a plurality of virtual connections, for which connection cells incoming on a transmission link are checked with respect to their temporal frequency. A temporal, average cell spacing of the incoming connection cells is provided according to an average bit rate of the at least one virtual connection and a bit rate on the transmission link. A central counter is clocked by a central counting clock and a counter value of the central counter is read at each of the incoming connection cells and the counter value that is connection-associated with the at least one virtual connection is stored. A counter value difference is formed from the stored counter value for the incoming connection cell and from the counter value that has been previously stored connection-associated with the at least one virtual connection for a previously arrived connection cell of the same virtual connection. Modular expandable digital switching network in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology for a fast packet-switched transmission of information. The switching network has a J.times.J array of pre-switching modules and a 1.times.J array of final switching modules. The inputs of the switching network are connected to primary inputs of the pre-switching modules, whose outputs are connected to expansion inputs of pre-switching modules in the same column of the subsequent row. The outputs of the pre-switching modules in the final row with index J are connected to the inputs of the final switching modules in the same column, whose outputs are connected to the outputs of the switching network. Thus, a modular expandable switching network in ATM technology can be realized with minimal wiring requirements.

A self-controlled concentrator for packet-synchronous for fast data packet switching networks has the first bits of the totality of input data packets act on the totality of the switch elements of the concentrator in accordance with the switch positions thereof. The switch elements are beta elements (.beta.), having two inputs and two outputs, whereby 1d n stages of n/2 beta elements (.beta.) each are provided in which n is the number of inputs and outputs of the concentrator. A connecting structure that represents a perfect shuffle is provided between the stages of beta elements. Dependent on the type of signal pair supplied to it, a beta element (.beta.) acts on a neighboring bete element to control the switch position thereof such that a concentration of the bits having a prescribed binary value at the outputs of the concentrator is produced at the last stage of the concentrator to produce a concentration of the data packets.

A sorting unit for a switching node comprising a plurality of digital switching matrix networks for fast, asynchronous packet switching networks, which switching node comprises a multi-stage, mixed connection structure based, for example, on a banyan tree structure, that forms a complete truck group, such that every input of the switching node is connectable to every output thereof. The digital switching matrix networks are fashioned as self-controlling (self-routing) sorting units that are a multi-stage circuit switching arrangement comprising 2m-1 beta element columns of m beta elements (.alpha.) each, whereby 2m is equal to the number of inputs and equal to the number of outputs of the sorting unit, and m is a power to two. The sorting unit is divided into a first sub-unit comprising m columns that functions as a distribution unit and a second sub-unit comprising m-1 columns that functions as a correction unit.
