Systems and techniques for managing helper cells in coordinated multipoint processing. Bandwidth assistance is requested from one or more cells operating in a network. In response to demand price and headroom information provided by a plurality of cells receiving the request, a set of potential helper cells is rank ordered and identified one or more helpers is identified from the ordered set and a candidate helper set is assembled based on bandwidth performance assistance criteria. A new request for bandwidth assistance is made. In response to new demand price and headroom information obtained from the candidate helper set, a determination is made whether sufficient iterations have been performed. If sufficient iterations have not been performed, the process is repeated, and if sufficient iterations have been performed, a requesting cell proceeds to operate while receiving bandwidth assistance from the assembled set.

Methods and apparatus for coordinated multipoint communication

The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for a power control (e.g., at least for DL power control) in a cell using a concept of a relative load in a network such as a wireless network. The relative load may be a ratio of cell's own load relative to an average load in a cluster of neighboring cells for scaling a nominal power value (or a function of the power value). The load can be measured, for example, either as a number of UEs in the cell, a RB utilization in the cell, a DL information traffic in the cell, or any other metric that's representative of the load in the cell. The resulting computed power for a DL signaling can be either on a per cell basis or on a per UE basis.

Downlink power control using relative load

Systems and techniques for managing interference between pico cells in a pico cluster. Pico eNodeBs are configured in groups for each of a plurality of UEs, based on factors such as signal to noise ratio and geographic location. All signals from UEs may be measured by all eNodeBs in the cluster, but a pico group decodes packets only of UEs associated with the pico group. Decoded packets are exchanged between pico groups, and when a pico group is unable to decode packets of an associated UE, is uses the decoded packets received in exchanges to reconstruct an interference signal. The interference signal is subtracted from the received signal and the resulting received signal is used to decode the packets of the UE.

Methods and apparatus for interference management

The invention provides an adaptive turbo decision feedback equalizer for executing an adaptive turbo decision feedback equalization method in response to a reception a packet including samples transmitted to the adaptive turbo decision feedback equalizer via a channel. The adaptive turbo decision feedback equalizer generates a first set of soft estimates of bits based upon a computation of a first feed-forward filter and a first feedback filter as a function of an estimation of the channel. The adaptive turbo decision feedback equalizer subsequently generates additional sets of soft estimates of the bits and a set of hard estimates of the bits based upon a computation of additional feed-forward filters and additional feedback filters as a function of a plurality of additional soft symbol estimates.

Adaptive turbo decision feedback equalization method and device

A reduced rank adaptive digital filtering method is described for a received signal consisting of a sequence of N&#xd7;1 received vectors. Each received vector is formed from a group of N successive samples. D+1 basis vectors are generated where D is less than N and the dimension of a desired reduced rank subspace. Each successive basis vector is generated by multiplying an immediate preceding basis vector by the covariance matrix for the sequence of received sample vectors and the first basis vector is formed from a given or estimated steering vector. D filter coefficients are generated from correlations between pairs of basis vectors. The adaptive digital filter of the present invention achieves near optimal rank performance with substantially fewer training symbols than heretofore possible.

Reduced rank adaptive filter

A communication system employs a HARQ-type retransmission scheme. Bits ( ) received on a first transmission are stored and combined with the bits received on later transmissions thereby increasing the likelihood of a correct decoding on later transmissions. Similarly the bits received on the second or later transmissions are stored for combining with subsequent received bits. Specific information needed at the receiver is identified and requested from the transmitter. More particularly, information that is retransmitted in a second or later transmission in the HARQ scheme is determined from a reliability of individual constituent bits in the mother codeword or from an overall reliability of the received codeword. Based on these reliability metrics, the most unreliable set of the constituent bits are requested or, in the alternative, a specific number of constituent bits is requested.
