In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a turbocharger includes a compressor having a compressor wheel, a turbine provided within a housing, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) flow path. The EGR flow path includes a first fluid connection in the housing and located in proximity to the turbine, a second fluid connection located in proximity to a trailing edge of the compressor wheel, an EGR control valve disposed between the first fluid connection and the second fluid connection, the EGR control valve configured to selectively operate the turbocharger in a low-heat mode having an EGR up to 50% and an operational mode having an EGR rate typically less than 35%.

High efficiency turbocharger with EGR system

A system includes a divided volute turbocharger that delivers compressed air to an internal combustion engine and receives exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine. The turbocharger includes a turbine housing, a first and second volute, and a turbine housing outlet. The system also includes turbine wheel disposed in the turbine housing and a vane ring disposed in the turbine housing between the turbine wheel and the volutes. The vane ring includes a plurality of vanes having an asymmetric vane pattern disposed on a vane ring surface of an annular disk that receives the turbine wheel therewithin to direct and control the flow of exhaust from the volutes into the turbine wheel with generally equal flow while significantly reducing HCF forcing function.

A turbocharger includes a turbine housing. The turbine housing includes an interior surface defining a turbine housing interior. The interior surface extends between a turbine housing inlet and a turbine housing outlet. The turbine housing also includes a wastegate duct disposed between the turbine housing inlet and the turbine housing outlet and defining a wastegate channel in fluid communication with the turbine housing inlet and the turbine housing outlet. The turbocharger also includes a valve seat and wastegate assembly including a valve movable between a first position and a second position. The turbocharger further includes a diffuser at least partially surrounding the valve seat for uniformly diffusing the flow of exhaust gas into the turbine housing outlet.

A two-stage turbocharging system with a high pressure (HP) turbine and a low pressure (LP) turbine, exhaust piping connecting an engine to the HP turbine inlet, exhaust piping connecting the HP turbine outlet to the LP turbine inlet, piping connecting the LP turbine outlet to an aftertreatment device, and branched bypass piping having an inlet and first and second branches, the inlet connected to the engine to HP turbine inlet exhaust piping, the first branch outlet connected to the LP turbine inlet, the second branch outlet connected to the aftertreatment device, and an R2S valve in the first branch and a warm-up valve in said second branch. By opening of the valve, exhaust gas can bypass both the HP and LP turbines and flow to, e.g., the catalytic converter. The R2S valve and the warm-up valve may be integrated into a single exhaust flow control unit.

Multi-stage turbocharging system with thermal bypass

A wastegate assembly () for a turbocharger () or the like is provided having a support plate (), an actuator (), a linkage () operably connected to the actuator (), and a valve plate () operably connected to the linkage (). The linkage () translates actuation of the actuator () to movement of the valve plate () thereby sealing or unsealing the bypass outlet (). The actuator (), linkage () and valve plate () can be pre-assembled to the support plate () prior to the support plate () being connected to the turbine housing (). The actuator (), linkage () and valve plate () can be calibrated prior to the wastegate assembly () being connected to the turbine housing (). The bypass outlet () can be machined via access provided by the wastegate port ().

Wastegate assembly

A throttle valve control system for an automobile having an engine, a carburetor mounted on the engine, a throttle valve in the carburetor for controlling the flow of fuel to the engine, an accelerator pedal, and a throttle linkage interconnected between the accelerator pedal and the throttle valve, the throttle linkage including a throttle linkage adjustment means including a piston/cylinder assembly (11) for expanding and shortening the effective length of the throttle linkage. A throttle limiting closure assembly (16) is mounted onto the piston/cylinder assembly (11) and includes a threaded travel rod (39) and a pair of lock nuts (46) for selectively limiting the amount of expansion of the piston rod from the cylinder. A source of compressed gas is provided including a normally open control valve (19) and an gas flow controller (21). The gas flow controller (21) is selectively adjustable to control the rate of gas flow from the control valve to the piston/cylinder assembly in order to control the rate at which the piston retracts into the cylinder and accordingly the rate at which the throttle valve reopens.

A fuel pressure regulator including a high pressure fuel supply chamber (18), a low pressure diaphragm chamber (19), a valve mechanism (21-24) for controlling the flow of fuel between the high and low pressure chambers, and a resilient impervious diaphragm (31) within the low pressure diaphragm chamber and coupled to the valve mechanism for imparting pressure fluctuations in the low pressure diaphragm chamber to the valve element of the valve mechanism. The fuel pressure regulator includes an array of alternating valve guide surfaces (58) and fuel flow channels (59) disposed about the valve element (23,24) for restraining the reciprocating movement of the valve element to and from a valve seat. The fuel flow channels provide a fuel flow design that uniformly delivers fuel through the valve mechanism into the low pressure diaphragm chamber.
