A thermal runaway detection system includes: a venting device including a sealing body in a venting passage and a thermal runaway detection circuit. The sealing body being configured to close the venting passage in a first position and to open the venting passage in a second position different from the first position. The thermal runaway detection circuit being configured to monitor a position of the sealing body and to output a signal corresponding to the position of the sealing body.

Thermal runaway detection system and battery system

In a connector system for a battery system, the connector system includes: a connector configured to electrically connect to a counterpart of the connector, wherein the connector comprises a negative connection element and a positive connection element; a first temperature sensor thermally connected to the negative connection element; a second temperature sensor thermally connected to the positive connection element; and a control unit configured to receive a first temperature signal from the first temperature sensor and to receive a second temperature signal from the second temperature sensor; wherein the control unit configured to generate a first value based on the first temperature signal and a second value based on the second temperature signal; and wherein the control unit is further configured to generate an alert signal in response to an absolute value of a difference between the first value and the second value exceeding a predefined threshold.

Thermal protection of connector

A controller is for controlling a battery module including a plurality of battery cells in a housing. The controller includes a control module to perform at least one control function with respect to at least one of the plurality of battery cells; and an access detection circuit including a light sensitive element in the housing. The access detection circuit is to output an access detection signal when a light intensity in the housing is greater than a predetermined threshold. The controller is to alter a state of the control module in response to the access detection signal.

Control unit for a battery module or system

A battery module for use with an electric vehicle is disclosed. In one aspect, the battery module includes a power source and an isolation monitoring circuit electrically connected with the power source. The electric vehicle includes a Y-capacitor module. The isolation monitoring circuit can discharge the Y-capacitor module when the battery module is electrically connected with the electric vehicle. According to at least one of the disclosed embodiments, no additional HV efforts to discharge a Y-capacitor, and discharge of a vehicle Y-capacitor can be performed on the battery side.

Battery system and electric vehicle using the same

A battery system includes: a plurality of battery cells electrically connected to each other in series between a first node and a second node; an intermediate node dividing the plurality of battery cells into a first subset of battery cells and a second subset of battery cells; a step-down converter connected in parallel with the plurality of battery cells between the first node and the second node and having an output node; a first diode, an anode of which is connected to the intermediate node and a cathode of which is connected to the output node; and a control unit interconnected between the output node and the first node and configured to control the step-down converter.
