A switchable cup tappet for a valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine, which has a cup basic body with an annular base loaded by large-lift cams. A hollow-cylindrical projection protrudes from an inner edge of the base and an inner body extends in the hole of the projection. The disc-like base is contacted by a small-lift cam. In a hole of the inner body two coupler pistons are coupled in sections with a driver surface of the cup basic body for a large valve stroke. The small stroke occurs by complete displacement into the radial hole. An annular web, spaced from its end faces at both ends, is attached integrally, in which the radial hole extends with the coupler pistons. The driver surface for the pistons is formed by a lower edge of the projection, which is spaced from the bases.

Switchable cup tappet

A switchable bucket tappet for a valve drive of an internal combustion engine, which has a bucket basic body with a ring-like base. A hollow-cylindrical projection protrudes from an inner edge of the base, and in the bore of the projection an inner body extends. Two coupler pistons lie opposite one another and, to achieve full valve stroke, engage in sections with a driver surface of the bucket basic body which run in a radial hole of the inner body. A zero valve stroke is achieved when the coupler piston is displaced completely into the radial hole of the inner body, which is baseless and free of contact with a cam. The projection has a window-like aperture, with the underside acting as the driver surface for an upper side of the coupler piston during coupling. The region of the base is an approximately symmetrical and continuously thin-walled formation.

A device for hydraulic control of gas exchange valves of a reciprocating internal combustion engine which has slave cylinders in operative connection with one or more gas exchange valves and master actuators in operative connection with at least one cam provided with a basic and cam profile of a camshaft that is rotatably driven by the engine and can be hydraulically connected to the slave cylinders. The device also has a control device controlled by an actuating member, the device controlling the volume of hydraulic liquid fed to the slave cylinders, and at least one feed line, via which low pressure liquid from a pressure source can be fed to the device by means of at least one non-return valve. The actuators have displaceable vanes, a component carrying the vanes, and cells limited by walls. The vanes are in operative connection with the basic and cam profile of the cam.

Device for the hydraulic control of gas exchange valves of a reciprocating internal combustion engine

A hydraulically actuated, preferably variable, valve drive of an internal-combustion engine is provided, with a slave unit (), which is embodied as a separate component relative to a master unit. A special characteristic is that the slave unit is provided with a hydraulic backlash compensation element (), which is connected to a path () for feeding hydraulic medium only outside of a stroke phase of a slave piston (). As a result, on one hand an easy-to-produce valve drive with slave unit () is provided. On the other hand, unnecessary 'pumping up' of the backlash compensation element () during the stroke phases of the slave piston () is prevented by the previously mentioned admission of hydraulic medium.

Hydraulically actuated, variable valve drive of an internal combustion engine

In a guide rail for the valve train of an internal combustion engine, having receiving spaces disposed in an elongate body in spaced-apart relationship behind one another and accommodating valve lifters, flats are formed upon the outer surface area of each valve lifter to prevent the lifter from rotating about its central longitudinal axis. These flats are supported by flats of the guide rail which are located within the pertaining receiving space. An inlet bore is assigned to each receiving space of the elongate body for insertion of the valve lifter with an attached trumpet-like end in direction of its longitudinal axis. Subsequently the valve lifter is shifted in axis-parallel relationship to the flats of the guide rail, which act as rotation-inhibiting surfaces, and then is slightly displaced again in axial direction.

The invention proposes a switchable finger lever () for a valve train of an internal combustion engine having a compact structure. Through the inner lever () of the finger lever () it is possible, on the one hand, to realize a support on a gas exchange valve and, on the other hand, a mounting on a head of a support element. An outer lever () surrounds the inner lever () in longitudinal direction with its arms (, 3) and is pivoted away from the inner lever () for effecting uncoupling. The outer lever () is mounted for pivoting on a cross axle () that extends through the inner element () axially above the support () for the gas exchange valve. At the same time, coupling elements () displaceable in crosswise direction are arranged axially above a complementary surface () that serves as a support on the support element.

The invention proposes a finger lever () of a valve train of an internal combustion engine, said finger lever () being switchable to different valve lifts for at least one gas exchange valve and comprising an outer lever () having two arms () between which an inner lever () is arranged for pivoting relative to the outer lever (), which outer and inner levers () can be coupled to each other by a coupling means (), the outer lever () comprising on one closed end (), a support () for a gas exchange valve and the finger lever () comprising on an opposite end (), a complementary surface () for a support element, the inner lever () having a fulcrum () in a region of the opposite end (), and at least this inner lever () comprising a contact surface () for a cam. In the finger lever () of the invention, the outer lever () has a substantially open fork-like configuration, the contact surface () for the cam on the inner lever () is configured as a rotatable roller () and the coupling means () comprises at least one slide () that extends crosswise to a longitudinal direction of the finger lever (), an axial line of the at least one slide () coincides with an axial line of the roller (), and the fulcrum () of the inner lever () is situated at least approximately at a same point on a length of the finger lever () as a fulcrum of the outer lever () in a region of the complementary surface () of the finger lever (). The switchable finger lever () of the invention has only a small design space requirement and a coupling mechanism of a relatively simple structure.

A device for controlling cylinder disconnection in internal combustion engines, with a control device which permits in one of its two switching states an actuation of the valve concerned, with transmission devices which, in dependence on the switching state of the control device, transmit the cam stroke to the valve, and with a control unit acting on the control device. This provides a high switch over reliability with only small requirements for the changeover technology used. For this, the device has a data memory for the detection of the time course of the movement behavior of the gas exchange valves of cylinders of the internal combustion engine, and a data processing unit which provides a combination of gas exchange valves into valve groups with regard to a common activation or deactivation.

In a valve drive for an internal combustion engine, an elongated securing device or anti-rotation bridge referred to as a mounting aid has receptacle spaces, arranged at intervals one behind the other, for receiving respective valve tappets. Each valve tappet can be displaced longitudinally in its receptacle space. The tappet is secured against rotation by two parallel planar keying faces formed on its outer surface which bear against corresponding inner surfaces in a receptacle space of the mounting aid. The mounting aid has receptacle spaces with a relatively small interval dimension between the two inner surfaces for bearing against the keying faces of standard roller tappets and has receptacle spaces with a relatively large interval dimension between the two inner surfaces for bearing against the keying faces of switchable roller tappets.

Valve train of an internal combustion engine comprising one or more switchable support elements

What is proposed is a switchable tappet ( ) for the direct transmission of a cam lift to a tappet push rod. The tappet ( ) comprises a hydraulic clearance compensation element ( ) and has an excellent hydraulic rigidity compared to the prior art. This is achieved by a leak gap positioned radially very far outwards. This leak gap is situated directly between a housing ( ) and a pressure piston ( ) which, in its turn, encloses an inner element ( ) that acts on a tappet push rod.

Switchable tappet for the direct transmission of a cam lift to a tappet push rod

The invention proposes a switchable tappet ( ) for the direct transmission of a cam lift to a tappet push rod. A coiled compression spring ( ), used as a lost motion spring, for loading the inner element ( ) is shifted axially out of a housing ( ). For this purpose, the inner element ( ) comprises an extension ( ) that projects out of the housing ( ) and is surrounded by the coiled compression spring ( ). This measure contributes to minimizing the total mass of the switchable tappet ( ) because the overall length of the housing ( ) is shortened.

A switchable tappet for directly transmitting a cam lift onto a tappet push rod, includes a housing having a push rod distal end which is formed with a ramp surface for contact by a cam. An inner element is placed in a recess of thehousing and has a push rod proximal end formed with an abutment for the push rod. Secured to the push rod proximal end of the inner element is an attachment to extend the inner element beyond the recess of the housing, wherein the attachment has a housing-distal end formed with a shoulder. A helical compression spring extends between the shoulder of the attachment and a rim of the housing for urging the inner element in a direction of the push rod, and conically expands, at least partly, in the direction of the push rod and is wrapped around the attachment of complementary conical configuration.

Switchable tappet for directly transmitting a cam lift onto a tappet push rod

In a switchable support element ( ) for a valve train of an internal combustion engine, the lost motion spring ( ) of the valve train is made as a torsion spring. This spring is arranged outside of the support element ( ) and only the legs and the arms of the spring engage a housing and a head, respectively.
