Treated articles with improved water sheeting and soap scum repellency result from forming hydroscopic films on the surfaces of hydrophobic polymeric substrates treated with compositions, kits and methods that employ water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymers having: (i) a first monomer that is capable of forming a cationic charge on protonation; (ii) a second monomer that is acidic and that is capable of forming an anionic charge in the compositions; (iii) optionally, a third monomer having an uncharged hydrophilic group; and (iv) optionally, a fourth monomer that is hydrophobic. Treated articles exhibit a Water Sheeting Index of greater than 6. Treated articles may further exhibit improved soap scum repellency behavior compared to untreated articles.

Polymeric surface treatment compositions

The present invention relates to associative complexes of water soluble and/or water dispersible polymers and polymeric fluorosurfactants, compositions and methods for modifying substrates to provide treated articles with surface protective properties including easier cleaning, increased stain and/or soil repellency, and increased resistance to bio-fouling and environmental contamination.

Polymer-fluorosurfactant associative complexes

Hydroscopic polymer gels can be formed by applying a polymer to a surface and allowing water to be sequestered from the atmosphere into the polymer. The polymer gels are formed using methods and compositions employing water soluble or water dispersible copolymers having: (i) a first monomer that is acidic and is capable of forming an anionic charge in the composition; (ii) a second monomer that is amphipathic; (iii) optionally, a third monomer that is hydrophobic; and (iv) optionally, a fourth monomer that that has a permanent cationic charge or that is capable of forming a cationic charge on protonation. The polymer gels are particularly substantive and effective at modifying surfaces such as glass and hydrophobic polymeric substrates to provide soap scum and soil resistance, and easier next time cleaning benefits.

Hydroscopic polymer gels for easier cleaning

An advanced cleaning system comprising cleaning compositions, pads, and implements provide effective cleaning of soft and hard surfaces. The system includes (a) a handle portion, the handle portion having a proximal end and a distal end, (b) a cleaning head portion that is attached to the distal end of the handle portion and that is adapted for use with a removable cleaning pad; (c) a cradle that is secured to the handle portion, and (d) a detachable cleaning aerosol reservoir for delivering cleaning fluid onto the surface to be cleaned adjacent the cleaning head portion, wherein the reservoir is positioned within the cradle.

Advanced aerosol cleaning system

A composition is provided comprising two liquids which are separately maintained prior to forming an admixture during delivery to a surface to be treated, whereupon the admixture generates a foam sufficient for cleaning efficacy and stability. A first liquid preferably includes a hypohalite, or a hypohalite generating agent and a second liquid preferably includes a peroxygen agent. As the two liquids are initially separated, the hypohalite generating agent can be maintained in an environment free of peroxygen agent and otherwise conducive to their cleaning activity and stability up to the time of use. When the two liquids are allowed to mix, for example, by simultaneously pouring into a drain, the hypohalite and peroxygen react to liberate oxygen gas. As foam generation occurs, the escaping gas contacts surfactant in the solution, and creates foam which expands to completely fill the drain pipe. The expanded foam contains an excess of the hypohalite, which acts to clean the drain. A method of cleaning drains is provided which comprises the step of pouring into a drain at least one liquid which generates foam in situ, the foam characterized by a density of at least about 0.1 g/ml, a half life of greater than about thirty minutes, a volume of at least about 500 ml, and wherein the foam contains a cleaning-effective amount of a drain cleaning active.

Foaming drain cleaner

Low odor, hard surface cleaner with enhanced soil removal

An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the &ldquo;shower rinsing&rdquo; type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises: (a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and (c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

Shower rinsing composition

An improved cleaning composition is provided for shower and tub surfaces which is of the 'shower rinsing' type, requiring no scrubbing, wiping, or immediate rinsing. The composition comprises: (a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and (c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

A concentrated, dilutable cleaning composition is provided which comprises a microemulsion comprising an oil phase of which the 'oil' is a nonionic surfactant, a predominant aqueous continuous phase, a polar organic solvent coupling agent, and a combination of surfactants different from the surfactant oil phase as the dispersing agent facilitating formation of said microemulsion, the cleaning composition dilutable with water for use as an all purpose cleaner and characterized by exhibiting the feature of blooming upon such dilution even in the absence of a lipophilic oil (or solvent). The blooming phenomenon is associated with the formation of a liquid crystal dispersion, which liquid crystal state is found to greatly enhance the cleaning effectiveness of the composition. In one aspect of the invention, one of the dispersing agent surfactants is a cationic surfactant which may be a quaternary ammonium compound capable of imparting an antimicrobial effect to the composition.

Microemulsion dilutable cleaner

An aqueous hard surface cleaner with improved soil removal is provided and has, as components, the following:

An aerosol cleaning composition for hard surfaces is provided with a surprisingly enhanced bathroom soil removal capability. The dispensable includes: (a) an anionic, nonionic, amphoteric surfactant, and mixtures thereof with optionally, a quaternary ammonium surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) at least one water-soluble or dispersible organic solvent having a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., said at least one organic solvent present in a solubilizing--or dispersion--effective amount; (c) a chelating agent selected from the group consisting of tri- or tetrapotassium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (potassium EDTA), tri- or tetraammonium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (ammonium EDTA) and mixtures thereof, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; (d) an effective amount of a propellant; and (e) the remainder, water. The preferred nonionic surfactant is an alkyl polyglycoside which provides a formulation stable to containment within a tin-plated steel can and which also facilitates processing of the composition.

Aerosol hard surface cleaner with enhanced bathroom soil removal

An aerosol cleaning composition for hard surfaces is provided. The dispensable includes: (a) an anionic, nonionic, amphoteric surfactant, and mixtures thereof with optionally, a quaternary ammonium surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) at least one water-soluble or dispersible organic solvent having a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., said at least one organic solvent present in a solubilizing--or dispersion--effective amount; (c) a chelating agent selected from the group consisting of tetrapotassium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (potassium EDTA), tetraammonium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate (ammonium EDTA) and mixtures thereof, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance soil removal in said composition; (d) an effective amount of a propellant; and (e) the remainder, water. The forming action of the aerosol composition facilitates the dispersement of the cleaning components.
