Adsorbents and methods for the adsorptive separation of para-xylene from a mixture containing at least one other Caromatic hydrocarbon (e.g., a mixture of ortho-xylene, meta-xylene, para-xylene, and ethylbenzene) are described. Suitable binderless adsorbents (e.g., formulated with the substantial absence of an amorphous material that normally reduces selective pore volume), particularly those with a water content from about 3% to about 5.5% by weight, improve capacity and/or mass transfer. These properties are especially advantageous for improving productivity in low temperature, low cycle time adsorptive separation operations in a simulated moving bed mode.

Binderless adsorbents and their use in the adsorptive separation of para-xylene

The present invention comprises a process for producing propylene comprising the steps of contacting an olefin feed containing between about 40 and about 80 wt-% olefins and between about 20 and about 60 wt-% olefins and aromatics with a spherical catalyst to form a cracked product, the catalyst comprising about 30 to about 80 wt-% of a crystalline zeolite, the reaction conditions including a temperature from about 500&#xb0; to 650&#xb0; C., a hydrocarbon partial pressure of 70 to 280 kPa (10 to 40 psia), a liquid hourly space velocity in the range of 5 to 40 hrand wherein propylene comprises at least 90 mol-% of the total Cproducts.

Spherical catalysts to convert hydrocarbons to light olefins

Reduced co-production of toluene and Cand higher aromatics such as trimethylbenzene, methylethylbenzene, and diethylbenzene is achieved in processes for the isomerization of xylenes to close to equilibrium using a layered catalyst having a thin outer layer of molecular sieve and hydrogenation metal component on a core, wherein at least about 75 mass-% of the hydrogenation metal component is in the outer layer.

Process for isomerizing non-equilibrium xylene-containing feed streams

An improved process is disclosed for the selective disproportionation of toluene. The process uses a zeolitic catalyst which is oil-dropped in an amorphous aluminum phosphate binder and optionally is selectively precoked prior to toluene disproportionation. The catalyst and process provide enhanced selectivity for the production of paraxylene.

Gas conversion catalysts which possess a high resistance to catalyst poisoning such as sulfur and/or chlorine-containing compounds, comprise a catalyst composite of copper, zinc and aluminum compounds containing at least one metal selected from the metals consisting of groups IVB, VB, VIB and VIIB of the Periodic Table. This catalyst composition may be used to synthesize methanol from a feedstock of carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

Gas conversion catalysts

Trace amounts of catalysts which are present in products resulting from organic reactions, such as rhodium which is present in the alcohol products resulting from a hydroformylation reaction, may be removed by treating the aforesaid products with a solid adsorbent such as a metal compound of Groups IA or IIA of the Periodic Table, molecular sieves or ion-exchange resins at a temperature in the range of from about ambient to about 100.degree. C. and a pressure in the range of from about atmospheric to about 100 atmospheres.

Recovery of metal values from organic reaction products

Metal catalyst complexes such as those containing a metal of Group VIII of the Periodic Table which have been used in organic reactions such as the hydroformylation of olefins to form alcohols may be recovered from the product alcohols by treating said alcohol with anhydrous gaseous ammonia at temperatures in the range of from about 0.degree. to about 100.degree. C. and pressures in the range of from about 5 to about 1000 psi to precipitate the solution catalyst complex and thereby enable the separation of the catalyst complex from the product to be accomplished in a relatively simple manner.
