A drive belt tensioning method and assembly using a spring loaded, non-active tensioner. The spring is mounted between a base plate, and a tensioner arm, both of which rotate. A belt tensioning pulley is mounted on the tensioner arm, such that the belt tensioning pulley is adjacent to the drive belt. The tension of the spring causes the tensioner arm to rotate which causes the belt tensioning pulley to tension the drive belt. The spring chosen has a predetermined working length at which the drive belt has the desired tension. Because both the base plate and the tensioner arm rotate, the spring may be kept at this predetermined working length for each belt adjustment. This enables the drive belt to maintain the desired tension. An alignment index integral to the assembly may be used to ensure that the spring is at the predetermined working length.

Compensating drive belt tensioner

An isolation coupling which provides for isolation of torsional vibration, from a drive component to a drive component, such as a driven shaft, due to non-constant drive forces. The vibration isolation coupling includes a drive assembly connected to the drive component, and a driven assembly connected to the driven component. The drive assembly and the driven assembly are axially aligned, such as being mounted on the shaft of the drive component for example. A member, having torsional compliability, interconnects the drive assembly to the driven assembly. Accordingly, vibrations imparted to the drive assembly are isolated from the driven assembly by such torsional compliability of the member.

An image forming apparatus includes a nest for receiving a photoconductive drum cartridge. The nest includes an electrometer projecting from an end of the nest parallel to an axis of rotation of a drum in a received cartridge. An opening in a received cartridge housing receives the electrometer closely spaced from the photoconductive drum. The cartridge also includes a charging station and a cleaning station. The cleaning station includes a blade and a roller upstream of the blade for directing cleaned toner toward a containing device opposite the blade from the roller.

Image forming apparatus includes a laser and a laser chassis. An image member cartridge containing a photoconductive drum is receivable in the laser chassis and fixed with respect to the laser. The laser chassis and image member cartridge are movable as a unit toward a transfer drum to engage the photoconductive drum and the transfer drum. Positioning surfaces engage opposite ends of a shaft of the photoconductive drum to control positioning of the drums.

A disengageable coupling generally of the double slider type includes first and third components fixed to the end of shafts to be coupled. A second spider component is slidingly coupled to the first component by interlocking mating surfaces that permit limited radial sliding but prevent axial movement of the spider component. The spider component and third component have disengageable clutch surfaces which also permit radial movement of the spider component with respect to the third component.

Disengageable coupling usable in a sheet transport mechanism

In an adhesive binder sheets received in an upper tray are driven past an adhesive applicator, through an inverting path and into a lower tray where the sheets are jogged and aligned. As the sheets are moved past the adhesive applicator, adhesive is applied to all but one sheet so that the sheets in the lower tray have adhesive between each two adjacent sheets. After a complete set of sheets are received in the lower tray, a bar applies pressure to the sheets in the area of the adhesive to form a booklet, and then the completed booklet is removed from the lower hopper. In accordance with the apparatus and method of the present invention, the first two sheets of a set of sheets are offset and then stopped during movement between the upper tray and the lower tray in order to provide sufficient time for the preceeding booklet to be finished and removed from the lower tray.
