Methods and systems are provided for detection of unauthorized entities in communication systems. The method includes obtaining a secret string by a first network element and generating a random number by the first network element. The method also includes computing a first cryptographic result by the first network element. The first cryptographic result is based on a cryptographic function, the secret string, and the random number. The method further includes attempting to transmit, by the first network element, a first packet that includes the random number to a second network element using a layer 2 packet terminating protocol. The method includes receiving, within a configured time, a second packet including a second cryptographic result at the first network element, and terminating transmission to the second network element when a second cryptographic result is different from the first cryptographic result.

Detection of unauthorized entities in communication systems

The present disclosure includes a method of utilizing protect paths, the method includes receiving a first message regarding a first failure in a first working path and receiving a second message regarding a second failure in a second working path. The method also includes matching a pattern comprising received messages regarding working path failures to a stored group comprising a plurality of connection identifications (IDs) that share identical protection paths and share a resource trail, the group being associated with a group identification (ID). The method additionally includes transmitting a third message to provision the identical protect paths for the group associated with the group identification. The present disclosure may also include associated systems and apparatus. The present disclosure may further include methods, systems, and apparatuses associated with provisioning groups utilized in methods of the present disclosure.

Systems and methods for utilizing protection paths

A method may include: (i) provisioning a first network-side interface of a first plug-in unit and a second network-side interface of a second plug-in unit as members of a network-side protection group, the first plug-in unit and the second plug-in unit integral to an adaptation layer network element; (ii) provisioning a first client-side interface of the first plug-in unit and a second client-side interface of the second plug-in unit as members of a client-side protection group; (iii) designating one of the first and second network-side interface as an active network-side interface of the network-side protection group; and (iv) designating one of the first second client-side interface as an active client-side interface of the client-side protection group, such that traffic ingressing on the active network-side interface may egress on the active client-side interface and traffic ingressing on the active client-side interface may egress on the active network-side interface.

Systems and methods for protection of adaptation layer in a communication network

The number of managed network elements within a SONET network is configured to exceed the number addressable elements in a given address area. This is achieved through the use of SONET extension network elements and a special TL1 command message protocol. Any network element that has only one optical path (protected or unprotected) to an adjacent network in the SONET network can become an extension network element. TL1 command messages may be targeted to an extension network element through its only adjacent network element based on the network element's physical port connecting the network element to the extension network element.

Method and apparatus for extending synchronous optical networks

A system and method provides the capability to provision and setup an end-to-end circuit that does not require the performance of extra, manual management link addition/removal procedures after all facilities and VT/STS cross connections have been provisioned. A method of provisioning a circuit comprises the steps of provisioning an Ethernet port facility, including determining a members of a Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme Virtual Concatenation Group before virtual tributary or synchronous transport signal cross connections are provisioned and before Synchronous Optical Network or Synchronous Digital Hierarchy cross-connections are provisioned; provisioning virtual tributary or synchronous transport signal cross connections; and provisioning Synchronous Optical Network or Synchronous Digital Hierarchy cross-connections.
