An electronic ignition module for vintage automobiles that utilizes existing components and wiring to retain the look and operation of the original system but with superior performance. The ignition module replaces the original roller and contacts of a vintage automobile ignition timer with modern control electronics that actuate the original coils and original spark plugs using the original wiring in the original manor. Electronic ignition operation is user programmable to emulate the original roller/timer performance or provide automatic spark advance similar to modern automobile operation for optimum power and efficiency while freeing the operator from manual adjustment of spark timing. Ignition module programming is accomplished without any external switches, buttons, jumpers or modification to the vintage automobile by simply sensing the presence or absence of ignition coils connected to the system when power is applied. The electronic ignition module resides fully contained within the confines of the original timer housing without any modifications what so ever, rendering it completely undetectable by visual inspection.

Method and apparatus for providing electronic ignition of early automobile engines

A feed-forward amplifier includes a main amplifier having input signals and amplified output signals and an error amplifier for amplifying distortion signals to be added to the amplified output signals of the main amplifier to produce an amplifier output. A pilot tone modulation and recovery circuit modulates a pilot tone to be coupled to the input signals of the main amplifier and recovers the pilot tone from the amplifier output. The pilot tone modulation and recovery circuit includes a digital filter and a signal source. The signal source is used to both modulate the pilot tone and control the digital filter for recovering the pilot tone.

Apparatus and method for processing of amplifier linearization signals

An automatic gain control (AGC) circuit for an RF amplifier (or other type of signal-processing module) has a single, switched, RF detector that selectively detects the instantaneous power level of either the sampled RF input signal or the sampled (and optionally attenuated) RF output signal. A processor uses the detected input and output power levels to generate control signals for a variable (e.g., voltage-controlled) attenuator that attenuates the RF input signal prior to being applied to the input of the RF amplifier. The processor is designed (e.g., programmed) to control the variable attenuator to maintain a constant gain between the input and output terminals of the AGC circuit. In addition to this closed-loop mode of operation, the AGC circuit may also have a temperature sensor, where the processor controls the variable attenuator in an open-loop mode of operation based on the temperature of the RF amplifier.

Single-detector automatic gain control circuit

The attenuator has a microstrip network connected between an input and an output of the attenuator, and the microstrip network has a different impedance than a remainder of the attenuator.

High frequency voltage variable attenuator

A temperature compensated zero bias RF detector circuit includes a zero biased diode detector circuit feeding the positive input of a differential amplifier circuit. The negative input of the same differential amplifier circuit is a temperature compensation voltage. The temperature compensation voltage is produced by current flow from a bias source through a reference diode and through the resistor back to ground. The bias supply remains constant over temperature, whereas the temperature compensation voltage changes with temperature as the forward voltage across the reference diode changes with temperature. The differential amplifier outputs a temperature compensated detection voltage. The differential amplifier is followed by a voltage level shifter, which adjusts the output temperature compensated voltage to a suitable level for measuring equipment or for use by other processing circuits.

Temperature compensated, zero bias RF detector circuit

A removable RF shield cover that snap-fit attaches to RF shield fence walls without special tools or soldering. The RF shield cover engage the interior surface of the shield wall with a tensional force that holds the RF shield cover and provides for a continuous metal-to-metal seal to isolate electronic components to reduce RF emissions or protect against electo-magnetic interference. The snap-fit attachment enables the RF shield cover to be easily removed from the fence, without special tools, to access components within the RF shield enclosure.

Radio frequency shield can cover with internal fingers

A tool for implementing a non-destructive separation of electrical components from one another. The tool has a handle part and a pair of legs extending from the handle part with a certain spacing between distal ends of the legs. The leg end spacing corresponds to a distance between a pair of holes in one electrical component, e.g., holes in mounting flanges of an electrical device whose terminals are soldered on a wire board, or holes in a wire board that is joined to another wire board via mating pin connectors soldered on the boards. The leg ends are constructed to engage the one component once the leg ends are inserted in corresponding holes in the one component, and the handle part is arranged to be manipulated to separate the first component from the second component when the leg ends engage the one component.

Tool for implementing non-destructive separation of electrical components

A phase shifter circuit shifts the phase of a voltage varying RF signal at high RF power levels by using a diode arrangement of back to back diode sets connected in series to reduce the change in capacitive reactance of the diode arrangement. The diode arrangement is connected to a phase adjustment port of a phase shifting device which shifts the phase of the RF signal according to the capacitive reactance level at the phase adjustment port. A control circuit for each back to back diode set can be used to provide independent adjustment of each diode set to balance capacitive reactance responses between the diode sets to further reduce the change in capacitive reactance. In certain embodiments, the phase shifter circuit uses a ninely (90) degree hybrid coupler with two phase adjustment ports, a zero (0) degree port and a -90 degree port. A first diode arrangement of back to back diode sets is connected to the zero degree port, and a second diode arrangement of back to back diode sets is connected to the -90 degree port. Each diode arrangement includes at least a first set of back to back diodes (common cathode) connected in series which a second set of back to back diodes. Using the diode arrangements with multiple back to back diode sets reduces the change in the capacitive reactance of the diode arrangement at high RF signal power levels with wide voltage swings. Additionally, providing each back to back diode set with corresponding control circuitry allows independent adjustment of the capacitive reactance associated with each diode set, providing improved balancing of the capacitive reactance responses between and within the diode arrangements.

Phase shifter circuit with high linearity

A security device to protect a telephone line from unauthorized outgoing calls from a telephone unit, comprising either a conventional or cordless type receiver, which includes an access limiter and bypass circuit interposed between the base telephone and the telephone line which responds to an access enabling device to unblock the access limiter and bypass to outgoing calls. In one form, the access enabling device is an electronic circuit which responds to a multidigit dial signal to unblock the outgoing calls. In a simpler form, the access enabling device includes mechanically actuated device, such as a lock and key, to block and unblock outgoing calls.

Method and apparatus for controlling telephone line access

A security modular connector constructed to fit into a conventional jack or receptacle for use in securing a connection in a telephone or computer system, such as for connecting a telephone base unit to a telephone line. The security modular connector differs from a conventional modular connector in that the spring-biased tab which bears on a stop when in electrically-engaged relation with the jack or receptacle is cut off so that it does not protrude through the opening of the latter, thereby denying manual access to the tab. Furthermore, a flange on the outer end of the security modular connector substantially closes the opening in the jack or receptacle when the connector is in engagement with the former. Thus, unauthorized persons are denyed access to the line. A special tool enables authorized persons to pry open the security modular connector from the face of the jack or receptacle, and depress the spring-biased tab, releasing the security connector from the jack or receptacle.
