Continuous production process of tertiary alcohols by radical addition

A process to purify waste waters using chemical oxidation and Fenton's reagent by the action in the acid range of hydrogen peroxide and iron(II) compounds and subsequent precipitation in the weakly acid to alkaline range of the iron(III) compounds, said process being characterized in that the sludge containing iron(III) accumulating in addition to the purified waste water is reduced electrolytically back into iron(II) compounds and in that the sludge so reduced is fed back into the process. The process of the invention allows extensive purification of highly concentrated waste waters and furthermore problems arising with the treatment and elimination of the Fenton sludge can be circumvented.

Process for chemically oxidizing highly concentrated waste waters

Stable, solid acetyl peroxyborate compounds which are active oxygen-containing compounds derived from acetic acid and boron-oxygen compounds. The compounds of the invention have a peracetic acid content which can be liberated instantly and directly in water with only minor formation of hydrogen peroxide The acetyl peroxyborates of the invention are useful in washing, bleaching and cleaning agent and disinfectant applications and as oxidizing agents in organic synthesis.

The present invention provides an electrolysis cell of the filter press type for the production of peroxy and perhalogenate compounds comprising alternatingly arranged cathodes and anodes provided with electrolyte feeds, wherein the cathodes (1) and anodes (2) consist of right parallelpiped-shaped hollow bodies between which are present frame-shaped seals (3) and which, via these seals (3), are connected together in a liquid-tight manner and insulated from one another to give a cell pile, the cathode hollow bodies (1) are liquid- and gas-permeable, the anode hollow bodies (2) possess, above and below a platinum layer, openings for the introduction and removal of the anolyte and the effective anode surface is formed by the platinum metal layer of a composite anode comprising a valve metal substrate and a platinum layer present thereon which is obtainable by the hot isostatic pressing of a platinum foil on to a valve metal carrier.

Filter press electrolysis cell

A composite electrode based on a valve metal with a layer of a platinum foil securely adhering thereto is produced by hot isostatic pressing of the valve metal base and platinum foil between separating sheets; the separating sheet which comes in contact with the platinum foil during hot isostatic pressing is a metal with a melting point of at least 100.degree. C. above the hot isostatic pressing temperature.
