Pixel circuit for an active matrix organic light-emitting diode display

An electronic driver circuit for driving a load exhibiting a capacitance comprises a controllable current source for providing at an output current related to an input data signal and a capacitance coupled between the output and input of the controllable current source for providing positive feedback.

Driver circuit, as for an OLED display

A read-only memory (ROM) is disclosed that uses the presence or absence of linear passive electrical elements, such as resistors or capacitors, to encode zeros and ones, permitting a large-area ROM to be fabricated, possibly on a flexible substrate. The ROM includes a substrate, a plurality of row conductors insulated from each other and at least partially layered on a portion of the substrate; a plurality of column conductors insulated from each other and from the row conductors and at least partially layered above or below a portion of the plurality of row conductors, a plurality of amplifiers electrically connected to the column conductors, and at least one linear passive element attached between the row conductors and the column conductors. An amplifier connected to a column conductor has an input impedance much lower than the combined parallel impedance of the linear passive elements connected to that column, thus comprising a virtual ground, and is operable to output a first logical state when one of the linear passive elements is electrically connected between one of the row conductors and one of the column conductors, and operable to output a second local state when said one of the linear passive elements is absent between one of the row conductors and one of the column conductors. The resistive or capacitive arrays can be made into low-cost imagers if the resistors/capacitors are sensitive to electromagnetic radiation or mechanical pressure.

Read-only memory using linear passive elements

A pixel circuit for an OLED element comprises first, second, third and fourth transistors wherein controllable conduction paths of the first and second transistors are connected for receiving a data signal current, and the control electrodes thereof are connected for receiving a select signal for being enabled thereby. The third and/or fourth transistors are connected for establishing a current in the OLED element responsive to the data signal current and the select signal. Capacitance may be provided by at least one of the transistors or by additional capacitance.

A radio frequency (RF) pulse power amplifier biased with a relatively low supply voltage generates one or more RF pulses having a relatively large output power. The RF pulse power amplifier may be configured as a push-pull power amplifier operating in class D mode including first and second sections, balanced-to-unbalanced (balun) transformer, and a load resistor coupled across the output winding of the balun transformer. Each section has a current source providing bias current, a MOS transistor, and a pair of bipolar transistors. Each section receives its input digital signal at the MOS transistor, which acts as a current switch for a bias current from a current source. With a relatively small voltage change in response to the input digital signal, the MOS transistor switches the bias current between itself and a transistor pair used to drive the corresponding half (input winding) of the balun transformer.

RF pulse power amplifier

A pixel structure having at least one organic thin film transistor (OTFT) that minimizes gate-to-pixel capacitance. In one embodiment, a pixel structure provides a new transistor structure where an OTFT electrode on the data-line side of the transistor is extended or wrapped around three sides of the transistor relative to a pixel-side electrode. Thus, the pixel-side electrode can be made very small without reducing the effective width (and therefore on-current) of the transistor.

Method and apparatus for providing a high-performance active matrix pixel using organic thin-film transistors

LED pixel structures and methods that improve brightness uniformity by reducing current nonuniformities in a light-emitting diode of the pixel structures are disclosed.

Active matrix light emitting diode pixel structure and concomitant method

A three electrode plasma display panel (PDP) operates in concurrent sustain and addressing periods, rather than separating the sustain and addressing periods. Because of this concurrent operation, a PDP with a brighter display is produced. Crosstalk between sustain electrodes and the column electrodes of non-selected rows is mitigated by implementing column voltages such that there is no difference in crosstalk brightness levels in non-addressed pixels in the on state compared to non-addressed pixels in the off state. This is accomplished by choosing column voltages that are approximately symmetric about one-half of the sustain voltage.

Continuous illumination plasma display panel

A circuit design technique polysilicon thin-film transistor (TFT) circuitry produces circuits that are relatively less sensitive to threshold variations among the TFT's than circuits designed using conventional techniques. The circuit is designed such that thin-film transistors that are sensitive to threshold variations are made larger than other thin-film transistors in the circuitry to minimize threshold variations among similar transistors implemented in the circuit. In one embodiment, a pixel structure for an active matrix display device implemented in polysilicon includes two transistors, a select transistor and a drive transistor. The drive transistor in the pixel structure is a thin film metal oxide silicon (MOS) transistor that includes a gate to source capacitance sufficient to hold an electrical potential which keeps the transistor in a conducting state for an image field interval. One embodiment of the pixel structure includes only the select transistor and the drive transistor. The pixel storage capacitance is entirely realized by the gate to source capacitance of the drive transistor. Another embodiment of the pixel structure includes a capacitor which is much smaller than the capacitor of a conventional active matrix pixel structure. This capacitor holds the pixel in a non-illuminated state when the drive transistor is turned off. This pixel structure may be used with any display technology that uses an active matrix and stores image data on a capacitance in the pixel, including without limitation, organic light emitting diodes, electroluminescent devices, and inorganic light emitting diodes.

Thin-film transistor circuitry with reduced sensitivity to variance in transistor threshold voltage

A LED pixel structure that reduces current nonuniformities and threshold voltage variations in a &ldquo;drive transistor&rdquo;of the pixel structure is disclosed. The LED pixel structure incorporates a current source for loading data into the pixel via a data line. Alternatively, an auto zero voltage is determined for the drive transistor prior to the loading of data.

A plasma display device having three-electrode pixels. Each pixel may be set either in a write state or in a sustain state by a pair of select electrodes. In the write state the pixel may be set either ON or OFF. A pixel is put in a write state when the AC signals applied to the select electrodes are in phase. Once the signals applied to the select electrodes are in phase, the pixel may be set ON or OFF depending on the phase of the signal applied to a data electrode. In the sustain state the pixel remains either ON or OFF regardless of the signal applied to the data electrode. A pixel is put in a sustain state when out-of-phase signals are applied to the pair of select electrodes. The pixels in the display are arranged in rows and columns. Each pixel column has a single data electrode, and each pixel row has a pair of select electrodes associated with it. Pixels in unselected rows may be illuminated concurrently with the writing into pixels in selected rows. In order to avoid crosstalk and high electric fields generated between a select electrode of one pixel and a select electrode of an adjacent pixel, adjacent pixel rows may share a select electrode.
