A digital printing machine includes a first cylinder for transporting sheets, a second cylinder for transferring the sheets directly to the first cylinder, a third cylinder for transferring the sheets directly to the second cylinder, and at least one inkjet print head directed towards the first cylinder for printing on the sheets disposed thereon. At least one first sensor measures the temperature of the first cylinder, a second sensor measures the temperature of the sheets while being transported by the second cylinder or by the third cylinder, and at least one temperature control device controls the temperature of the sheets prior to their transfer to the first cylinder. A control element adapts the temperature of the sheets to the temperature of the first cylinder. The first sensor, the second sensor and the temperature control device are connected to the control element.

A method for controlling the temperature of a sheet in a printing machine includes measuring initial temperatures in zones on the sheet. Segments of an emitter are actuated in different ways as a function of the measured initial temperatures for irradiating cooler zones to a greater extent and warmer zones to a lesser extent or not at all. A common final temperature or at least a homogenization of the temperature is therefore achieved in the zones.

The supporting shell extends over the entire width of the printed sheet. A machine for processing sheets, in particular a sheet-fed rotary printing machine, includes a transporting cylinder for transporting the sheets and having air nozzles disposed offset in relation to one another in a direction other than an axis-parallel direction of the transporting cylinder, and having a directing configuration for directing the sheets and having air nozzles, the configuration being assigned to the transporting cylinder. A smoothing device includes guide surface sections for a flat printing material whose leading edge is pulled in a direction of travel over the guide surface sections. The guide surface sections have openings which communicate with throttling ducts that are pressurized with compressed air during operation. The guide surface sections form a smoothing notch and have air passage openings which communicate with a flow duct. The air passage openings are configured to cause pressure conditions when there is an air throughflow during operation such that the flat printing material forms a bead projecting into the smoothing notch.
