A method of detecting for primary circuit loss of an electronic stability control system for a vehicle comprises checking that a lateral acceleration sensor is installed and working properly, a yaw sensor is installed and working properly, and a steering wheel angle sensor is installed and working properly. An absolute value of the lateral acceleration sensor is compared with a first pre-defined threshold, an absolute value of the yaw sensor is compared with a second pre-defined threshold, and an absolute value of the steering wheel angle sensor is compared with a third pre-defined threshold. It is determined that primary circuit loss detection is not required when any of the three sensors are equal to and above the respective pre-defined thresholds and that primary circuit loss detection is required when all of the three sensors are below the respective pre-defined threshold.

Arrangement and method for preventing false detection of electronic stability control primary circuit loss

A vehicle stability control system operates by detecting a wheel speed potentially indicative of the presence of a mini-spare wheel at a wheel location of a vehicle with a wheel speed sensor and determines that a mini-spare tire is present responsive to the wheel speed remaining within a predefined band for predefined time. A threshold value that triggers action by a vehicle stability control system is adjusted to provide the mini-spare wheel with a value different than a wheel speed threshold value indicative of wheel slipping for a standard wheel.

Quick mini-spare detection

A method identifies, for a vehicle, a low friction surface from a road surface with a slope. With the vehicle at standstill, the vehicle ignition is switched on. A normal load for the vehicle is calculated. It is determined if the vehicle is moving, and if the vehicle is moving, a vehicle load is calculated using suspension information from the vehicle. A road slope angle is calculated based on the calculated vehicle load and calculated normal load. A normal slope angle is calculated and is compared to the calculated road slope angle to determine if the vehicle is on a low friction surface or on a sloped surface. In accordance with another aspect of an embodiment, a method determines whether a trailer is coupled to a vehicle.
