An apparatus for interrupting an electrical short circuit current in an electrical distribution system having a plurality of phases is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing, a plurality of separable conduction paths, an operating mechanism in operable communication with the plurality of conduction paths, an electronic trip unit in signal communication with each of the plurality of conduction paths and in operable communication with the operating mechanism, and an electromagnetic trip unit in signal communication with each of the plurality of conduction paths and in operable communication with the operating mechanism. The electromagnetic trip unit is configured to be operably responsive to a first half-cycle waveform of the short circuit current prior to the electronic trip unit being operably responsive to a second multi-cycle waveform of the short circuit current.

Method and apparatus for magnetically tripping circuit breakers

An automatic transfer switch and protection device is provided. The device includes a contact, a drive assembly, and a controller. The contact is movable among a first position, a second position, and a third position. The drive assembly moves the contact among the first, second, and third positions. The controller receives a first signal indicative of a condition of power in a first power source and a second power source. The controller provides a second signal to the drive assembly to move the contact in response to the first signal. The contact can provide power to a load from the first source in the first position, from the second source in the second position, and can isolate the load from the first and second sources in the third position.

Automatic transfer switch and protection device

A neutral pole for a multipole circuit breaker is disclosed. The circuit breaker includes a housing, a plurality of contact arms for opening and closing an electrical circuit, and an operating mechanism for driving the contact arms. The neutral pole includes a neutral housing, a conduction path within the neutral housing having a neutral arm arranged to open and close the conduction path, a bias spring configured to exert a first bias moment on the neutral arm when the conduction path is closed, a spring support configured to support the bias spring, a rotor pivotally arranged within the neutral housing and configured to displace the neutral arm and to open the conduction path, and a drive pin configured to couple the rotor to the multipole circuit breaker. The spring support is fixedly arranged at the neutral housing. The rotor is responsive to the opening and closing action of the operating mechanism of the multipole circuit breaker.

Method, system and apparatus for employing neutral poles in multipole circuit breakers

A removable cover for a an electrical component box includes a pair of side walls having hinge edges including a hook and an engagement surface extending from the hook. The hook slides over and engages the hinge members of a box, and the engagement surface forms a sliding surface that allows rotation of the cover about the hinge elements. The hinge is easily installed and removed by orienting the cover at a selected angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the box, and lifting the hook over the hinge member to either engage or disengage the hook from the hinge members.

A service unit provided with a door having an evenly illuminated lens is disclosed. The service panel, typically containing at least one outlet, provided behind the door further preferably includes a socket for receiving a lamp. The lamp used in the present invention preferably directs light towards a bottom side of the unit, in a direction across the lens when the door is in a closed position, such that the light is evenly distributed across the lens. The door includes an opening for receiving the lens that is further preferably provided with an indented lip recessed from the front surface of the door such that the lens lies substantially flush with the front surface of the door. A plastic rivet may secure the lens to the lip, as may a bead of adhesive along the lip. The lip is preferably not present along the top side of the opening for allowing the top side of the opening to serve as a rain shed for the lens. The lens may include an alphanumeric symbol for identifying a particular camp site.

A planar member for use in a support structure, the planar member includes a plurality of apertures which are positioned to align with a set of openings in a wall of the support structure, the set of openings corresponding to a predetermined configuration of electrical components to be installed into the support structure. The number of openings in the wall are larger than the plurality of apertures in the planar member.

An electric disconnect switch assembly mounted within a disconnect enclosure for manually disconnecting electrical equipment from a source of supply power is presented. The electric disconnect switch assembly includes a receptacle and a handle assembly. The receptacle is attached to a bottom wall of the disconnect enclosure and accepts line and load stabs and line and load terminal lugs. The handle assembly includes a handle grip projecting from one end and a line blade and a load blade slidably engaged and extending from an opposite end thereof. The handle is slidably arranged within the receptacle wherein the line blade and the load blade are moved into and out of contact with the line and load stabs by manual operation of the handle grip.
