A method for selecting data to reconstruct a three-dimensional (3D) image of a subject of interest includes acquiring a 3D emission dataset of the subject of interest, acquiring a respiratory signal of the subject of interest, the respiratory signal including a plurality of respiratory cycles, and calculating a respiratory profile using the respiratory signal. The method further includes, for each respiratory cycle, generating a gating window, calculating a minimum total squared difference (TSD) between a plurality of phases in the respiratory profile and the same plurality of phases in the respiratory cycle, and positioning the gating window based on the TSD values calculated, and reconstructing a 3D image using only the emission data within the plurality of gated windows. A system and non-transitory computer readable medium are also described herein.

Method and apparatus for data selection for positron emission tomogrpahy (PET) image reconstruction

Method and system for scanning a patient using a medical imaging system is described. The described method includes measuring a signal-to-noise ratio of an acquired data and/or reconstructed image and comparing the same with a selectable signal-to-noise ratio threshold. The method further includes controlling a remainder of the scan based on the comparison.

Changes in the stream of sinogram data corresponding to movement of the object are detected. The method selects portions of the stream of sinogram data. The invention relates to a system and method for executing a scanning procedure comprising the steps of generating CT image data for a scan, generating CT attenuation correction data for the scan, acquiring a current frame of PET data for the scan in a 3D format, and simultaneously conducting the following steps: reconstructing at least a portion of a PET image for the current frame, including the step of overlapping a portion of the current frame with an adjacent frame, and acquiring at least a portion of a next frame of PET data.
