A golf club head has a body having a ball striking face, a rear opposite the ball striking face, a crown, a sole, a heel, and a toe, the body having a void defined by a peripheral edge on the sole. The body further defines a cover that extends over the void and forms at least a portion of the crown. At least a portion of the peripheral edge of the void includes a lip extending from the peripheral edge inwardly into the void. The golf club head may additionally or alternately include one or more weight receptacles connected to the sole and having an opening in the sole, such that each weight receptacle is configured to receive insertion of a weight through the opening.

Golf club and golf club head structures

A golf club having improved visual feature recognition includes a golf club head coupled to a golf club shaft. The golf club head includes a hosel defining a bore, a sole, and a design attribute that is generally not capable of easy visual discernment. The bore has a first portion having a first diameter, a second portion having a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter, and a transition from the first diameter to the second diameter. The bore extends through the golf club head to the sole, and the golf club shaft is disposed within the first portion of the bore and secured to the hosel. A polymeric plug is disposed within the bore between the golf club shaft and the sole. The polymeric plug includes a restraining feature that contacts the transition to prevent withdrawal of the polymeric plug through the sole, and is a color that corresponds to the design attribute.

Golf club head

A cavity back golf club head having a bridge member and a damping element is disclosed. The bridge member extends across a first rear cavity connecting a heel and a toe of the golf club head to control the trajectory of a golf ball. For the longer iron clubs, a damping element extends from the sole portion of the cavity back golf club head to the bridge member to define a second cavity to further influence the trajectory of the golf ball. For the shorter iron clubs, the damping element extends from the top portion of the cavity back golf club head to the bridge member. The damping element may reduce the vibration and sound of the golf club head upon impact with a golf ball.

A device for changing the mass characteristics of a golf club may include a first movable mass. The device may also include a first movable mass guide configured to accommodate longitudinal travel of the first movable mass along the golf club shaft. The first movable mass guide may not extend beyond the distal end of the golf club shaft. The golf club head may include a second movable mass and a second movable mass guide that accommodates travel of the second movable mass.

Device for changing mass characteristics of a golf club

A golf club sleeve for use with various golf club structures is presented. The golf club sleeve may have an airfoil shaped cross section and may extend over at least a portion of the shaft of the golf club to reduce drag associated with the shaft during a golf swing, thereby increasing swing speed. The golf club sleeve may be rotatable relative to the shaft of the golf club to orient itself during a swing in order to improve air flow over the sleeve.
