A cooking appliance that facilitates preparation of dry packaged foods includes a base and a removable pot on the base. The base is adapted to rest upon a horizontal countertop surface as a support for other components of the cooking appliance. The base includes an electric line adapted to be plugged into a source of household electricity and an electric motor connected to the electric line. The pot is adapted to be placed removably upon the base for food preparation purposes and to be used apart from the base as a serving dish. An electric heating element is included for heating the pot when the pot is on the base using electric power from the electric line. A stirring mechanism on the pot is adapted to connect to the motor when the pot is placed on the base and to stir packaged foods within the pot using rotational power from the electric motor. The stirring mechanism of one embodiment includes a stirring element and an opposing blade that are so adapted that the stirring element rotates past the opposing blade in order that the stirring element and the opposing blade can cooperatively break up clumps of food between them. A temperature control, a timer, and a grease collection pan are also included on the base, together with a removably grease drain element in the pot.

An appliance for cooking fajitas and other tortilla cuisine includes an electric grill plate having a plate component with a cooking surface, an electrical heating element component adapted to heat the plate component for purposes of cooking foodstuffs placed on the cooking surface, a portion of the plate component that defines a compartment adapted to hold a stack of tortillas for purposes of warming the tortillas with heat derived from the electric grill plate, and a cover for the compartment. One embodiment includes a removable tortilla tray within the tortilla warming compartment for holding the tortillas while they warm so that the cook can lift the tortilla tray from the tortilla warming compartment for purposes of transporting the tortillas to the table. Ribs on the plate component facilitate drainage of grease, oil, and other runoff liquids from the fajitas and other foodstuffs through a hole in the plate component to a removable collection drawer. A separate tortilla rack holds a tortilla in a semi-folded configuration that facilitates addition of the cooked foodstuffs to it. A removable plastic base holds the plate component during usage while disassembling from the plate component for cleaning.

An electric grill for cooking hamburgers and other foodstuffs includes a first grill plate assembly adapted for use atop a kitchen countertop, table top, or other horizontal support surface, a second grill plate assembly connected by a hinge arrangement to the first grill plate assembly in a clamshell arrangement, and a bun warmer portion of the second grill plate assembly that defines a compartment adapted to hold at least one bun (e.g., a hamburger bun) in order to warm the bun. In one embodiment, the bun warmer portion of the second grill plate assembly includes a metal plate adapted to support the bun, and a vented transparent lid over the plate. The first grill plate assembly may include an electric grill plate with an inclined cooking surface that slopes to facilitate grease runoff to a drip tray, and components in the form of leg extensions for adjusting the height of the first cooking surface above the horizontal support surface.
