The invention pertains in a first aspect to a multilayer film that includes a frangible holographic image layer and an adhesive layer adjacent to a side of the holographic image layer; and, an additional temporary support layer that is adjacent a side of the holographic image layer that is opposite the adhesive layer, and provides integrity to the multilayer film. The additional temporary support layer can be a polyester film that is removable from the multilayer film at &#x2266;10 gram per inch peel strength; or, can be a heat-shrinkable film that is removable from the multilayer film with the application of heat. After application of the multilayer film to a substrate, the holographic image layer forms an exterior surface of the multilayer film. In a second aspect, the invention pertains to an authentication label of the multilayer film for attachment to a substrate, wherein a side of the adhesive layer that is opposite the holographic image layer contacts the substrate, and the holographic image layer forms an exterior surface of the label.

In a first aspect, a multilayer film includes a holographic image layer, a first heat-shrinkable layer and a first adhesive layer between the holographic image layer and the first heat-shrinkable layer. In a second aspect, an authentication label includes a holographic image layer, a first heat-shrinkable layer, a first adhesive layer between the holographic image layer and the first heat-shrinkable layer, and a back adhesive layer.

A multicolor hologram (e.g., a two-color hologram) is replicated (copied) into a photosensitive layer by masking to produce a copy (replicate) of the hologram in a manner such that the copy is an accurate and true replication of the hologram (e.g., master hologram) and the copy is characterized to possess a high brightness level and color fidelity comparable to that of the multicolor hologram that was replicated. Both flood and scan modes can be employed in the replication.

A holographic optical element (HOE) that includes a deep image hologram and a method for using this HOE as a security device are described. The deep image hologram is viewable with a collimated or at least partially collimated light source having a center wavelength in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum and a spectral bandwidth, wherein the spectral bandwidth of the collimated or at least partially collimated light source at least partially overlaps the spectral bandwidth of the deep image hologram. The deep image hologram is not viewable (i.e., appears essentially unrecognizable to the human eye) with a diffuse lighting source, such as ordinary room lighting.

A permanent curl is provided in flexographic printing plates comprising a flexible sheet support and a photosensitive layer of a photopolymerizable elastomeric composition having a dry thickness of about 0.005 to 0.250 inch wherein after liquid development the printing plate is dried, 20.degree. to 80.degree. C. for at least 0.25 hour, and is postexposed by overall actinic radiation exposure for 1 to 30 minutes, at least the postexposure occurring while the printing plate is present on a curved surface, e.g., a printing cylinder. The process is useful for rubber and block copolymer-containing printing plates.

Process for improving ozone resistance of photosensitive flexographic relief printing plates prepared from at least 30% by weight of a block copolymer as defined, at least 1% by weight of at least one addition polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound, and a polymerization initiator wherein there is applied to the dry relief surface of said plates a solvent solution containing at least 1% by weight of a nickel or zinc dialkyldithiocarbamate compound where alkyl is from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The treated plates which possess improved ozone resistance are useful for flexographic printing.

Process for providing improved solvent resistant surfaces of relief flexographic printing plates prepared by imagewise exposure and liquid development of the unexposed areas of a layer of photosensitive elastomeric composition comprising a high molecular weight butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and a monomeric compound wherein, optionally after drying, the developed surface is, in either order, (1) postexposed to actinic radiation, and (2) contacted with two successive aqueous halogen solutions, first, 0.01 to 3.5% by weight aqueous bromine solution for about 15 seconds to 20 minutes or 0.2 to 10% by weight aqueous iodine solution for about 1.0 to 10 minutes, followed by chlorine solution equivalent to that supplied by an aqueous solution, 0.01 to 1.0 molar in NaOCl and 0.012 to 1.2 molar in HCl, for about 15 seconds to 5 minutes.

Dry nonelectroscopic toners comprising pigmented organic resin particles having a size distribution of 0.2 to 30 micrometers, not more than 50 percent of the particles being less than 1 micrometer surface treated with a combination of at least 1% by weight of an antistatic agent and at least 0.5% of a slip agent as described. The preparation of the toners is described. The toners are useful in color developing positive and negative-working photosensitive elements particularly in an automatic toning machine. Improved clean-up and low stain propensity are achieved.

Dry nonelectroscopic toners comprising pigmented organic resin particles having a size distribution of 0.2 to 30 micrometers, not more than 50 percent of the particles being less than 1 micrometer surface treated with a combination of at least 1% by weight of an antistatic agent and at least 0.5% of a slip agent as described. The preparation of the toners is described. The toners are useful in colr developing positive and negative-working photosensitive elements particularly in an automatic toning machine. Process for toning tacky image surfaces with dry nonelectroscopic toners

Toner particles of an intimate mixture of 25 to 75% by weight of substantially colorless, inert, nonelectroscopic spheroidal-shape polymer particles of size distribution in the range of greater than 5 to less than 60 .mu.m, not more than 15% of the polymer particles being less than 10 .mu.m or greater than 50 .mu.m equivalent spherical diameter, and 75 to 25% by weight of colorant particles having a size distribution within the range of 0.2 to 30 .mu.m and not more than 50% of the colorant particles being less than 1 .mu.m particle size. Ionic copolymer spheroidal particles are preferred. The toner particles are useful for color development of tacky areas by depositing and distributing the toner particles by means of a pad, including an applicator apparatus comprising a housing for toner, a free moving weight in the housing for agitating the toner, means to release toner from the housing, and at least two hinged pads mounted on the housing.
