A lightweight, high strength aircraft float for use by ultralight, experimental, and light general aviation float planes. The float consists of a unitary outer shell that is formed into a desired shape using rotational molding, or blow molding, from a suitable polymer. In the preferred embodiment, the shell is manufactured of a high strength, cross-linked high density polyethylene, which has high strength, high impact resistance and is resistant to degradation by ultraviolet light. It is also preferred that an internal reinforcing structure be utilized to provide additional stiffness and rigidity to the upper and lower surfaces of the float. This structure may consist of the two extruded aluminum box sections, formed to appropriate profiles, which are inserted through small apertures at the front or rear of the roto-molded shell and secured within the shell by mechanical fasteners. One or more mounting devices may be attached to the upper surface of the float to allow the float to be attached to the fuselage of the floatplane. The preferred mounting devices allow for adjustment of the longitudinal placement of the floats, and thus the center of gravity of the floats relative to the center of gravity of the aircraft, by a small amount. Finally, the float may be filled with closed-cell foam of a suitable polymer, such as expanded polyethylene foam, though floats without such a foam are preferred.

Aircraft float and system utilizing the same

An apparatus for endoscopic surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, heel spur syndrome, or other conditions requiring fibrous tissue division and a method for endoscopic treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome are disclosed which include a slotted cannula, an obturator for guiding the cannula into a body opening, an elevator, a retractor, and a hooked surgical knife. The elevator and retractor are used in separating tissue at a surgical opening into the wrist, hand, foot or other location and the obturator and cannula are inserted into the opening for endoscopic division of the carpal ligament, plantar fascia or other tissue. The obturator is removed and a videoarthroscope is inserted in the one end of the cannula while the knife is inserted in the other end to permit direct observation of the procedure as the ligament is divided in one step. The instruments are very small and leave only small openings which reduce the trauma and facilitate early recovery from the surgical procedure.

Apparatus and method for endoscopic surgery

A device to encompass and engage with the thumb to substantially immobilize the metacarpalphalangeal joint, thereby preventing radial deviation of the thumb phalanx while leaving the interphalangeal joint with substantially full flexion.

Thumb protector

Linear arrays of optical fibers are aligned to linear arrays of optoelectronic devices (e.g., photodiodes, diode lasers or LEDs) formed on an elongated chip. The alignment procedure results in a subassembly which includes fiber segments embedded between V-groove mounting blocks and the device array chip affixed to an end face of the blocks.

Aligning arrays of optoelectronic devices to arrays of optical fibers

Apparatus including a semiconductor laser source and means for stabilizing the frequency of the laser. A feedback signal is provided by means such as a Fabry-Perot interferometer, which signal is coupled simultaneously to two feedback loops. One loop provides high frequency control of the drive current while the other loop provides low frequency control of the laser temperature.
