A method of tracking a lead mobile device entails receiving tracking data that includes a current location for both the lead mobile device and at least one other mobile device that is also tracking the lead device. The method also entails displaying the current locations of the lead device and of the at least one other mobile device that is also receiving the tracking data. A related method shares tracking data with other mobile devices by activating a communication application, communicating with a plurality of other mobile devices via the communication application, and receiving user input to cause the mobile device to transmit tracking data to the plurality of other mobile devices.

A power management system and method for a wireless communication device generates an average desired transmit power signal based on at least one of a received signal strength indicator signal and a power control instruction signal from a base station. A power supply level adjustment signal is generated based on the data parameters of an outgoing data stream and at least one environmental information signal. A combination of the power supply level adjustment signal and the average desired transmit power or a gain control signal and an altered version of the power supply level adjustment signal is used to generate a variable power supply signal that is provided to an output amplifier block for sufficiently generating outgoing wireless device radio signals while reducing power loss in the output amplifier block.

An adapter for providing a source of power to a mobile device through an industry standard port is provided. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the adapter comprises a plug unit, a power converter, a primary connector, and an identification subsystem. The plug unit is operative to couple the adapter to a power socket and operative to receive energy from the power socket. The power converter is electrically coupled to the plug unit and is operable to regulate the received energy from the power socket and to output a power requirement to the mobile device. The primary connector is electrically coupled to the power converter and is operative to couple to the mobile device and to deliver the outputted power requirement to the mobile device. The identification subsystem is electrically coupled to the primary connector and is operative to provide an identification signal.

Multifunctional charger system and method

An over-voltage protection circuit is disclosed herein for protection against over-voltage of an energy storage device while charging. The circuit operates within the operational limits of a battery-operated device, such as a mobile or handheld device. The over-voltage protection circuit comprises an over-voltage protection device, and an over-voltage protection controller. The controller allows current to flow to the over-voltage protection device only when an energy storage device is experiencing over-voltage. In allowing current to flow to the over-voltage protection device only when the voltage across the energy storage device is above a predetermined voltage, power conservation is achieved.

In accordance with the teachings described herein, a method and apparatus for handling a charging state in a mobile electronic device is provided. A universal serial bus (USB) interface may be used for connecting the mobile device to a USB host. A processing device may be used to control operation of the mobile device and receive an enumeration acknowledgement signal from the USB host via the USB interface and generate an enable signal upon receiving the enumeration acknowledgement signal. The method and apparatus may further include a rechargeable battery, a battery charger, a timing circuit, and a battery charger enabling circuit.

A system and method for using a universal serial bus (USB) interface in a mobile device is provided that includes providing a battery charger operable to receive a voltage provided at the USB interface, the battery charger operable for charging a battery in the mobile device, and, a voltage regulator operable to receive a voltage provided at the USB interface, the voltage regulator used in powering the mobile device. The method also includes, detecting a USB bus voltage at the USB interface, measuring passage of a predetermined amount of time upon detecting the USB bus voltage, and disabling at least one of the voltage regulator and the battery charger if the predetermined amount of time expires before an enumeration acknowledgement signal is received at the USB interface.
