A method of surveilling a subject including a person's body may include or an imaging system may provide interrogating the subject with electromagnetic radiation, and generating, from the interrogating, image data representative of at least a first image of at least a portion of the person's body. In some examples, a first portion of the body may be identified, and a first feature of the image may be determined based at least partially on the identified portion of the body. In some examples, the orientation of the person's body may be determined from one or more features of one or more image portions. In some examples, a portion of the image of the person's body may be replaced with a substitute image portion that may be a modified portion of the first image.

Active subject privacy imaging

A method of surveilling a subject including a person's body may include or an imaging system may provide interrogating the subject with electromagnetic radiation, and generating, from the interrogating, image data representative of at least a first image of at least a portion of the person's body. Active subject imaging with body identification

One embodiment of the invention pertains to a method of determining a measure of image complexity. An image is subdivided the image into a plurality of small image regions. Multiple statistical tests are performed to determine the similarity of a pair of adjacent image regions. If said pair passes the multiple statistical tests, then the pair of adjacent image regions are grouped together into one new region. The resulting merged regions may be weighted according to geometry and/or color variance, and the weights may be summed to produce an image complexity measure.

Method and apparatus for measuring image complexity

One embodiment of the invention relates to a method of merging segments to form supersegments in an image. The image consists of a plurality of segments that are constituent portions of the image. At least one candidate segment(s) and at least one neighboring segment(s) for each candidate segment are identified. An error statistic for each pair, consisting of a candidate segment and a corresponding neighboring segment, is computed. A neighboring segment is determined that results in a smallest error statistic for a given candidate segment. A determination is also made as to whether the smallest error statistic is sufficiently small to merit merging of the corresponding pair of segments. The corresponding pair of segments is merged to create one supersegment. The supersegment is a new segment including all pixels formerly contained in one of the two segments that were merged.

Method and apparatus for merging related image segments

An imaging system can include an antenna apparatus configured to transmit toward and receive from a subject in a subject position, millimeter-wave electromagnetic radiation. A subject may include a person and any object or objects with the person. A controller can include a transceiver configured to operate the antenna apparatus and produce an output representative of the received radiation, and a processor adapted to produce from the transceiver output, image data representative of an image of the subject. At least a first portion of an image signal representative of radiation received by an antenna apparatus may be used to produce first image data representative of a first image of at least a portion of the subject. Second image data representative of a second image having resolution that is different than that of the first image may be produced from at least a second portion of the image signal.

Surveilled subject imaging with object identification

A surveillance system can include a first sensor apparatus configured to interrogate a subject, including a person and objects carried by the person, with millimeter-wave electromagnetic radiation for imaging the subject. A supplemental source provides additional information about the subject that is relatable to objects potentially carried by the person. Relational information relates the produced image signal and the subject information. The supplemental source may be a second sensor apparatus adapted to detect a given characteristic of an object potentially carried by a person in the subject position. Relational information about whether the person is carrying an object having the given characteristic may then be produced.

A subject may be interrogated with electromagnetic radiation for producing image data representative of an image of the subject. First and second image data, produced based on reflectivity in first and second frequency ranges, may be related. In some examples, image data for one picture element may be produced based at least in part on reflectivity of the radiation at a depth selected based at least in part on a depth of another picture element. In some examples, plural images may be produced based on reflectivity at different depths. In some examples, a value of reflectivity may be determined for an intermediate depth between two adjacent depths of image data based at least in part on reflectivity of the radiation for a plurality of spaced-apart depths.
