A method of operating a dispensing system for a washing machine including a suds container for receiving wash liquid and at least one supply container for receiving a treating agent. The method includes selecting and activating a wash or treatment cycle from a plurality of wash or treatment cycles using an input device. The treating agent for delivery to the suds container is selected based on suitability information corresponding to the selected wash or treatment cycle. The treating agent is delivered to the suds container at the start of the activated wash or treatment cycle. The activated wash or treatment cycle is performed using a controller.

The laundry appliance also includes a steam generator with a heating element, an inlet opening and a common outlet opening for water and steam. A pump is configured to deliver water to the inlet opening of the steam generator. A nozzle is disposed in an edge region of the container opening and configured to inject water and steam into the interior of the container.

A dispensing system for powdered treating agent for use in a washing machine includes a supply container for the treating agent, a delivery device configured to deliver the treating agent to the washing machine through a connecting hose, and a dosing device for dispensing the treating agent from the supply container to the delivery device. The supply container has an agitator with a first vertical rotatable shaft and rotatable blades. The dosing device includes a cylindrical chamber, with a compartmented wheel having spokes disposed therein. The compartmented wheel is disposed below a bottom of the supply container and is coupled to a second vertical rotatable shaft. The cylindrical chamber has an inlet opening disposed in the bottom of the supply container and an underside of the cylindrical chamber has an outlet opening to the delivery device. The compartmented wheel is also coupled to the vertical shaft of the agitator.

The laundry appliance also includes a steam generating device including a heating element, an inlet opening and an outlet opening for steam, and a nozzled disposed in a region of the container opening. The method includes activating the heating element until a temperature of the steam generating device reaches a predetermined upper limit. Water is introduced into a tank of the steam generating device at a predetermined flow rate and the temperature of the steam generator device is measured as the water is introduced. The flow rate of water is reduced when the temperature of the steam generator device drops below a lower limit. The flow rate of water is increased starting at a low value when the temperature of the steam generator device increases to a value above the lower limit and below the upper limit. The heating element is operated continuously at a predetermined power level.

A time-dependent pressure profile of the gas volume flow is determined during bubble formation using a pressure sensor.
