A sled for guiding a common hand router to cut a precision planar surface on a workpiece has plywood frame rails spaced by cradles supporting the workpiece between the frame rails. Base rails riding on the upper edge surfaces of the plywood frame rails are sequentially incrementally advanced at intervals along the frame rails in an X-axis direction by a linear ratchet assembly. A router is reciprocated in Y-axis directions during the intervals between the sequential incremental advances of the base rails, cutting a precision planar surface on the workpiece. The router is adapted to adjust the Z-axis elevation of the router cutter. The sled may be manually operated or automated.

Router sled

A vehicle-tire pressure-level regulator has a pressure vent cooperable with an actuator for pressure release and a pump for pressure recovery. The actuator and the pump motor are respectively electronically controlled to adjust the tire pressure in relation to high and low thresholds above and below a desired operating pressure throughout a race. The pressure vent does not operate if an accelerometer detects that the tire is distorted because the vehicle is turning. If the vehicle is not turning and the high pressure threshold is reached, the vent is opened. If the low pressure threshold is reached the pump is activated until the tire is restored to the desired operating pressure. Operation of the vent may be controlled to provide different rates of outlet flow as real-time pressure may require. Operation of the vent may be prevented if a transient pressure spike occurs.

Regulator and method of regulating the pressure level of a motor vehicle tire

An aerial camera system including a plurality of main reels, a camera interface/safety reel and a stabilized camera head. The camera head is supported from main cables from the main reels with a safety reel cable providing power, data and video communication between the camera head and a main computer system. Each of the main reels, the camera interface/safety reel and the camera head are in communication with the main computer system, which controls the feeding and reeling in of the main cables. Further, the computer system controls the feeding and reeling in of the safety reel cable, which typically only follows the camera head as it moves in three-dimensional space, but may in emergency mode support the weight of the camera head and be used to slowly pull the camera head up and out of the way so that it does not interfere with any activity below the flight area.

Aerial camera system

Nickel based alloys are provided comprising from about 7.0 weight percent (wt %) to about 12.0 wt % chromium, from about 0.1 wt % to about 5 wt % molybdenum, from about 0.2 wt % to about 4.5 wt % titanium, from about 4 wt % to about 6 wt % aluminum, from about 3 wt % to about 4.9 wt % cobalt, from about 6.0 wt % to about 9.0 wt % tungsten, from about 4.0 wt % to about 6.5 wt % tantalum, from about 0.05 wt % to about 0.6 wt % hafnium, up to about 1.0 wt % niobium, up to about 0.02 wt % boron, and up to about 0.1 wt % carbon, with the remainder being nickel and incidental impurities. The alloys may be cast, directionally solidified and heat treated to provide articles having a gamma prime fraction of greater than about 50%.

Nickel-based superalloys and articles

Furthermore, the camera head of the aerial camera system may use a rotating gimbal assembly with computer controlled leveling motors for keeping the camera head level as the gimbal assembly moves.

A door threshold water return system, comprising: a lower sill; an upper sill; a rear wall; and a front wall forming a chamber, wherein at least one baffle is provided projecting into the chamber from the rear wall, a first gap is provided in proximity to the rear wall and between the upper sill and the rear wall, and a second gap is provided in proximity to the lower sill and between the lower sill and the front wall, whereby water introduced into the system through the first gap exits the system through the second gap.

Door threshold water return systems

An article, such as a turbine engine component, formed from a nickel-base superalloy, the nickel-base superalloy containing a &#x3b3;&#x2033; tetragonal phase and comprising aluminum, titanium, tantalum, niobium, chromium, molybdenum, and the balance nickel, wherein the article has a time dependent crack propagation resistance of at least about 20 hours to failure at about 1100&#xb0; F. in the presence of steam. The invention also includes a nickel-base superalloy for forming such and article and methods of forming the article and making the nickel-base superalloy.

Nickel-base superalloys and articles formed therefrom

A method of heat treating a turbine rotor disk to obtain different radial properties at different locations in the rotor disk includes a) heating the rotor disk for a period of from 4 to 10 hours at a temperature of 1800&#xb0; F.; b) cooling the rotor disk to a temperature of about 1550&#xb0; F.; c) holding the rotor disk at about 1550&#xb0; F. for a period of from about 2 to about 4 hours; d) cooling the rotor disk to room temperature; e) precipitation aging the rotor disk by heating the rotor disk to temperature of 1325&#xb0; F. for 8 hours, holding it at 1150&#xb0; F. for 8 hours, and f) cooling the rotor disk.

A VAR process is conducted in an apparatus characterized by a crucible wall that provides a stable shelf anchor. The VAR apparatus includes a furnace chamber, a consumable electrode formed of a material to be remelted within the furnace chamber and a crucible within the furnace chamber. The crucible has a wall that forms a vessel to collect melt material from the consumable electrode. At least part of the wall is textured to provide area for mechanical stabilization of the shelf as the underside of the shelf melts and the upperside of the shelf forms. In a vacuum arc remelting process, a consumable electrode is loaded into a furnace chamber above a cooled crucible having a textured wall that forms a vessel to collect melt material from the consumable electrode. The process includes striking a direct electric current between the electrode and a bottom of the crucible to cause melting of material from a tip of the electrode. Melt material is collected from the tip in the crucible. The melt material is cooled to form an ingot characterized by a shelf of solidified material forming adjacent the textured section of the crucible wall in advance of a lower boundary of solidifying material.

Vacuum arc remelting apparatus and process

A method combining isothermal and high retained strain forging is described for Ni-base superalloys, particularly those which comprise a mixture of .gamma. and .gamma.' phases, and most particularly those which contain at least about 40 percent by volume of .gamma.'. The method permits the manufacture of forged articles having a fine grain size in the range of 20 .mu.m or less. The method comprises the selection of a fine-grained forging preform formed from a Ni-base superalloy, isothermal forging to develop the shape of the forged article, subsolvus forging to impart a sufficient level of retained strain to the forged article to promote subsequent recrystallization and avoid critical grain growth, and annealing to recrystallize the microstructure. The method permits the forging of relatively complex shapes and avoids the problem of critical grain growth. The method may also be used to produce location specific grain sizes and phase distributions within the forged article.

Isothermal and high retained strain forging of Ni-base superalloys

In a linear actuator, a cylinder is separated into forward and reverse chambers by a piston. A lead screw is threadedly engaged in the piston and a piston rod connects to the load. A turbine applies torque to the screw to urge the screw toward clockwise or counterclockwise rotation depending on the direction of the piston movement. The tangent of the lead screw helix angle is so substantially equal to the coefficient of friction between the piston and the screw that the torque generated by the turbine does not significantly vary the force exerted on the load and the force on the load does not significantly vary the speed of movement of the load. Variations between the static and dynamic coefficients of friction between the lead screw and the piston can be offset by selection of an appropriate lead angle and friction coefficient in the turbine driven system. Variable relief pressure control valves selectively limit the net force applied to the piston according to the magnitude of the external load so that the actuator can be tuned for high efficiency and long life. Valves communicating with flow inlets to the turbine permit varying the speed of the flow of fluid into the turbine so that the extension and retraction speeds of the actuator will be established and remain constant within the power capability of the actuator.

A method for forming nickel base superalloy articles of manufacture by a combination of hot die forging, isothermal forging and heat treatment below and above the solvus.

Grain size control in nickel base superalloys

A flow control valve has a gate connected between an operating fluid inlet and outlet. An actuator permits manual adjustment of the gate area to allow fluid to pass from the inlet to the outlet at a threshold rate of flow for a threshold pressure at the first inlet. A biasing mechanism cooperable with the gate and linearly responsive to variations in a control pressure applied to a control inlet of the valve constantly automatically readjusts the area of the gate in proportion to the control pressure. In a constant speed pneumatic motor application of the valve, the motor inlet pressure is applied to the control inlet of the valve and the motor outlet pressure is applied to the operating fluid inlet of the valve. A regulator connected to the motor inlet senses the pressure at the motor outlet. In operation, at idle, the threshold flow rate through the valve is selected by manual adjustment of the valve actuator or stem. The load is added and the motor outlet pressure decreases. The regulator senses the change and increases the motor inlet pressure accordingly. As the motor inlet pressure varies, the size of the valve gate varies proportionately so that the rate of fluid flow through the motor, and therefore the motor speed, remains constant.
