A sample grinder includes a base having a bowl and a rotatable drive plate to operably support a grinding wheel. A head is configured to support a specimen holder and has a first drive for rotational drive of the specimen holder and a second drive for moving the head and specimen holder toward and away from the drive plate. The head has a sleeve that is larger than the specimen holder. A cover is disposed over the bowl and has an opening larger than the sleeve so that the sleeve fits through the opening when the specimen holder is moved toward the rotatable drive plate. The grinding wheel is mountable to the plate in a single radial orientation only. A dressing system is operably connected to a controller to monitor the current of the drive plate motor and/or the head first drive actuates the dressing system based upon the current drawn by the drive plate motor and/or the head first drive motor falling below a predetermined value.

Planar grinder

A saw has a system for sensing the torque on a cutting blade to signal when the blade begins to cut material. The saw has a drive belt extending between a driven wheel and a drive wheel and a belt tensioner that engages a side of the belt and maintains tension in the belt. The belt tensioner is movable to maintain the tension in the belt. A control system calculates the movement of the belt tensioner. The saw has a system for determining the size of the sacrificial blade. A through beam photoelectric emitter and receiver pair are positioned on opposite sides of the blade such that a largest cutting blade is moved above the beam regardless of a horizontal position of the cutting blade and sensor senses a vertical position of the axis of the blade. The sensor senses the vertical position of the blade axis when the blade is moved above the beam.

Sample preparation saw

A sample encapsulation system includes a base, a chamber having an inlet and a chamber housing in which the chamber is housed. The chamber is fixedly mounted at least in part within the housing and the housing is movably mounted to the base. The system includes a cap, a first ram operably mounted to the cap for engaging the chamber inlet and a second ram positioned in the chamber opposite the inlet. The second ram is movable toward and away from the first ram. The chamber and housing are movable toward the cap for engaging the first ram with the chamber inlet during an encapsulation cycle and away from the cap, disengaging the first ram from the chamber inlet following an encapsulation cycle. The system includes heating and cooling assemblies and a temperature sensor located remotely from the chamber interior to automatically isolate cooling water to the system.

Sample encapsulation system and method

An improved grinder/polisher includes a base having a bowl, a rotating drive plate and a drive plate drive that is adapted to support a platen. The grinder/polisher includes a head configured to support a specimen holder. The head has a first drive for rotational drive of the specimen holder and a second drive for moving the specimen holder toward and away from the drive plate. The head includes a load cell operably connected to the first drive and a counter operably connected to the second drive. The counter is configured to determine movement and the extent of movement of the head toward and away from the drive plate. The grinder/polisher includes a control panel mounted within a housing and including a microprocessor controlled control system having a touch panel or screen.

Grinder/polisher

A retractable water dispenser arm system for a grinder/polisher includes a flexible hose formed, in part in a loop and affixed at at least one location to a base of the grinder polisher. A spout is mounted to an end of the flexible hose. A biased tension arm engages the hose at the loop, and is moveable, along with movement of the hose, to maintain the hose in tension. The biased tension arm includes a roller over which the hose traverses. A mount on the base is configured to receive the spout and is further configured for traverse of the hose therethrough. The mount includes a mount roller operably mounted thereto for guiding the hose through the mount.

Retractable water dispenser arm for grinder/polisher

A slide holder for mounting to a sample holder having a pair of openings therein, for a grinder/polisher includes a plate for receiving the slide. The slide holder includes a pair of stems extending from the plate and configured and spaced for receipt in the sample holder openings. A locking element is mounted to each stem. The locking elements are mounted to pivot eccentrically relative to a center axis of each stem. The stems are inserted into the sample holder openings and the locking elements are pivoted to lock the slide holder to the sample holder and to prevent the stems from disengaging from the sample holder.

A modular fluid-dispensing system includes a master control dispenser and/or one or more satellite dispensers that communicate bi-directionally with the master control dispenser. The master control dispenser is programmable and may dispense one or more solutions. Each satellite may dispense fluid in either a stand-alone mode or under control of another fluid-dispensing-system component, such as a master control dispenser, or a grinder/polisher. A master control dispenser may store various multi-step dispensing methods and may advance a dispensing method to a next step automatically or based on a control signal received from a grinder/polisher. A master control dispenser may perform a fluid-dispensing method that is synchronized with a corresponding grinder/polisher method performed by a grinder/polisher that is coupled to the master control dispenser.

Modular fluid-dispensing system

Apparatus and method for grinding semiconductor chips and other specimens prior to microscopic examination thereof by supporting a specimen on a specimen mount, fixing the specimen mount to a lower end of a lower arm, connecting an upper end of the lower arm to a swingable arm by a horizontal pivot which permits the lower arm and specimen mount to move upwardly and downwardly relative to the swingable arm, providing a stop to limit downward movement of the specimen mount relative to the swingable arm when the lower arm reaches a zero position, moving the swingable arm downwardly to lower the specimen to engage an underlying rotatable grinding platen to define a zero position, and continuing to move the swingable arm downwardly beyond the zero position by an amount corresponding to the amount of material to be removed from a lower portion of the specimen so that the stop will prevent removal of additional material.

Micro precise polishing apparatus

A device for securing and holding live bait while it is applied to a fish hook. The bait holder is comprised of two sets of opposed slender fingers which mesh together without harm or injury to the bait. The fingers are curved to present concave surfaces towards the opposed set to center and position the bait for complete access to all portions of the bait for hook applying purposes.
