A pack of disposable multi-layered liner sheets suitable for covering non-planar surfaces of medical scanners having a long, hard to clean, bore or tunnel, particularly MRI scanners, to establish a sterile patient environment. Liner sheets are connected end-to-end in a stack by an adhesive or a linear array of perforations to respective succeeding and preceding sheets of the pack. In one embodiment, the pack is secured inside the bore by pegs on the top side of the pack engaging strategically placed clips attached to the bore wall. In other embodiments, the pack is secured inside the bore by opposing sides of a backing layer extending laterally beyond the liner sheets to engage a groove in guide rails affixed inside the bore.

An inflatable cushion for a side of a vehicle is provided, the inflatable cushion having a first sheet of material; a second sheet of material, the first sheet of material being secured to the second sheet of material at a seam to define the inflatable cushion; and wherein the seam consists only of: a first plurality of stitches; a peripheral edge portion of the first sheet of material; and a peripheral edge portion of the second sheet of material; and wherein no adhesives or sealants are applied to the first sheet and the second sheet when the seam is formed by applying the first plurality of stitches.

An inflatable cushion for a side of a vehicle is provided, the inflatable cushion having: a first cushion section formed from a first sheet of material secured to a second sheet of material, the first cushion section having a plurality of separate inflatable cells each of which having an inlet opening for receipt of an inflation gas; an internal passageway formed in the first cushion section, the internal passageway linking and fluidly coupling to each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells via the inlet opening of each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells, the internal passageway being formed by an upper portion of the first sheet of material and an upper portion of the second sheet of material; a fabric diffuser member located in the internal passageway, the fabric diffuser member being sealed at one end and open on another end for receipt of an inflation gas, the fabric diffuser being configured to supply the inflation gas to each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells through a plurality of inflation openings, wherein a height of the fabric diffuser in an inflated configuration is less than a length of the fabric diffuser in the inflated configuration and wherein the fabric diffuser is rolled inwardly to define an un-inflated configuration, the height of the fabric diffuser in the un-inflated configuration being less than the height of the fabric diffuser when it is in an inflated configuration.

An inflatable cushion for a side of a vehicle is provided, the inflatable cushion, having at least one inflatable cell proximate to an end of an inflatable portion of the inflatable cushion, the least one inflatable cell being defined by a first layer of cushion fabric secured to a second layer of cushion fabric; a single sheet of fabric secured to either the first layer or second layer of cushion fabric defining the at least one inflatable cell, the single sheet of fabric defining a non-inflatable portion of the inflatable cushion and wherein a substantial portion of the single sheet of fabric traverses the at least one inflatable cell and is tangent to a face of the at least one inflatable cell when it is inflated such that upon inflation of the at least one inflatable cell tension is created in the single sheet of fabric.

An inflatable cushion for a side of a vehicle, the inflatable cushion having: a first cushion section formed from a first sheet of material secured to a second sheet of material, the first cushion section having a plurality of separate inflatable cells each of which having an inlet opening for receipt of an inflation gas; an internal passageway formed in the first cushion section, the internal passageway linking and fluidly coupling to each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells via the inlet opening of each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells, the internal passageway being formed by an upper portion of the first sheet of material and an upper portion of the second sheet of material; a fabric diffuser member secured in the internal passageway, the fabric diffuser member being configured to supply the inflation gas to each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells; and means for restricting fluid flow between the plurality of inflatable cells by limiting fluid flow between an exterior portion of the fabric diffuser member and an interior surface of the internal passageway proximate to an edge of the inlet openings of the plurality of inflatable cells.

An inflatable cushion for a side of a vehicle is disclosed herein, the inflatable cushion having: a first cushion section formed from a first material, the first cushion section having a plurality of separate inflatable cells each of which having an inlet opening for receipt of an inflation gas; an internal passageway formed in the first cushion section, the internal passageway linking and fluidly coupling to each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells via the inlet opening of each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells; a diffuser member disposed in the internal passageway, the diffuser member being configured to supply the inflation gas to each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells, wherein the diffuser member consists essentially of a non-rigid fabric member formed from a permeable material, the non-rigid fabric member is independent of the first material used to form the first cushion section and the permeable material of the non-rigid fabric member is the main source of fluid flow into each inlet opening of each of the plurality of separate inflatable cells such that the inflation gas must pass through the permeable material; and means for restricting fluid flow between the plurality of inflatable cells by limiting fluid flow between an exterior portion of the diffuser member and an interior surface of the internal passageway proximate to an edge of the inlet openings of the plurality of inflatable cells.

An inflatable side curtain airbag for a passenger vehicle is provided. The airbag incorporates a new diode design that restricts gas flow, creating a plurality of substantially isolated cells. A delivery tube delivers gas to the cells through a plurality of outlet orifices that open to the cells. Upon inflation of the cells with a gas, flow of gas between each of the plurality of substantially isolated cells is restricted during occupant loading.

Inflatable airbag

A pressurized container includes a vessel defining a chamber therein. A housing that is connected to the vessel defines an outlet that is fluidly separated from the chamber by a closure member. A moveable member may be seated within and form a seal with the housing and abut the closure member. Activation of an initiator propels the moveable member through the closure member, thereby fluidly connecting the chamber and the outlet. The pressurized container might include an obstruction partially blocking an outlet path and another initiator that breaks the obstruction when activated, thereby further opening the outlet path. The pressurized container might include a main path fluidly connected to the outlet, a first secondary path that connects the main path to the chamber, and a second secondary path that also connects the main path to the chamber. If the pressurized container includes two secondary paths, a first closure member can fluidly separate the outlet from the chamber of the vessel along the first secondary path, and a second closure member can fluidly separate the outlet from the chamber of the vessel along the second secondary path. Also, the chamber might include a first portion and a second portion, wherein an isolator member substantially fluidly separates the first portion and the second portion.

Inflator for vehicle protection apparatus

A pressurized container includes a vessel defining a chamber therein. A housing that is connected to the vessel defines an outlet that is fluidly separated from the chamber by a closure member. A moveable member may be seated within and form a seal with the housing and abut the closure member. Activation of an initiator propels the moveable member through the closure member, thereby fluidly connecting the chamber and the outlet. Also, the chamber might include a first portion and a second portion, wherein an isolator member substantially fluidly separates the first portion and the second portion. Gas released from the first portion initially inflates an air bag associated with the pressurized container and gas released from the second portion maintains the inflation of the air bag for a time.

An apparatus (10) includes an inflator structure (12) and a modular valve assembly (18). The inflator structure (12) defines an inflation fluid pressure chamber (15), a fluid exit opening (60), and a fluid flow path (62) extending between the chamber (15) and the exit opening (60). The modular valve assembly (18) has a plurality of parts that are interconnected separately from the inflator structure (12), including a metering member (182) and a tubular valve housing (180) containing and supporting the metering member (182) for movement within the valve housing (180). The modular valve assembly (18) has an installed position in which the valve housing (180) extends longitudinally across the flow path (62) defined by the inflator structure (12). The inflator structure (12) further defines a valve compartment (76) in which the valve housing (180) is receivable and movable longitudinally across the flow path (62) upon movement of the modular valve assembly (18) to its installed position.

Inflator for vehicle occupant protection system

An apparatus (10) includes an inflator structure (12), a rupturable closure member (48), and an initiator assembly (14). The inflator structure (12) defines a chamber (15) storing inflation fluid (16) at an elevated storage pressure. The closure member (48) is fixed and sealed to the inflator structure (12) to block the inflation fluid from flowing outward from the chamber (15), and is subjected to the storage pressure. The initiator assembly (14) includes pyrotechnic material (88) and a support structure (82, 84) which is mounted on the inflator structure. The support structure (82, 84) adjoins the closure member (48) in a load bearing relationship so as to transmit a storage pressure force from the closure member (48) to the inflator structure (12). When the pyrotechnic material (88) is ignited, it produces combustion products that rupture the support structure (82, 84). The closure member (48) has a specified strength which is low enough for the closure member (48) to be ruptured by the storage pressure independently of the combustion products when the support structure (82, 84) has been ruptured by the combustion products.
