Systems and methods for detecting moving objects are provided. Systems illustratively include an image acquisition component, an image processing component, and a display component. Image acquisition components capture image data over a wide spatial area. Image processing components have dedicated algorithms for change detection and receive captured image data from image acquisition components. Image processing components utilize the captured data and the dedicated algorithms to perform image change detection. Display components receive processed image data from image processing components and provide visual indications that items of interest have been detected. Methods illustratively include obtaining first and second images covering a wide field-of-view. The second image is registered to and compared to the first image. Based at least in part on the comparison, a moving object within the wide field-of-view is detected. An indication of the moving object is provided.

System for extending a field-of-view of an image acquisition device

Moving object detection

Systems for extending a field-of-view of an image acquisition device are provided. In one embodiment, a system includes a rotatable image-directing device, an actuator, and a controller. The rotatable image-directing device directs optical images along an optical image path. The actuator controls a position of the rotatable image-directing device, and the controller generates signals for synchronizing the rotatable image-directing device and the image acquisition device. The signals illustratively include a first signal that is transmitted to the actuator, and a second signal that is transmitted to the image acquisition device.

Infrared stationary lens systems for performing multi-dimensional scans of scenes are provided. Systems illustratively include a stationary lens, a first scan mirror, a second scan mirror, and at least one actuator. The stationary lens transmits infrared light and has an optical axis. The first scan mirror has a first axis and pivots about the first axis to direct images of a scene to the stationary lens along a first dimension. The second scan mirror has a second axis and is located in an optical path between the first scan mirror and the stationary lens. The second scan mirror pivots about the second axis to direct images of the scene to the stationary lens along a second dimension. At least one actuator controls the first and the second scan mirrors such that the first and the second scan mirrors step and stare across the multi-dimensional scan of the scene.

Multi-dimensional staring lens system

An image acquisition system for capturing images of a scene is provided. The system includes a stationary image acquisition device that receives optical images. A light-directing device directs images toward the image acquisition device. The light-directing device pivots about a pivot axis over a scan range that is less than 360 degrees.
