A door latch has an outside latch operating lever for unlatching the door latch, a composite locking lever that has an unlocked position where the outside latch operating lever is operable and a locked position where the outside latch operating lever is disabled; an inside lock operating lever for moving locking lever back and forth between the locked and unlocked positions and an outside lock operating lever for moving the locking lever back and forth between the locked and unlocked position; and a deadbolt locking mechanism for disabling the inside lock operating lever. The composite locking lever has an inside locking lever and an outside locking lever that includes the composite locking lever. The outside locking lever is operated by the outside lock operating lever and has an unlocked position where the outside latch operating lever is disabled. The deadbolt locking mechanism also includes a drive member that has a drive position that couples the inside and outside locking members for concurrent movement so that the inside locking member can move the outside locking member along with it from the locked position to an unlocked position where the outside latch operating lever is operable and a lost motion position where the inside locking member cannot move the outside locking member with it from the locked position to the unlocked position. The drive member is moved back and forth between the drive position and the lost motion position by a link that can be overridden by a reset member that is controlled by the outside latch operating lever.

Door latch with manually resettable deadbolt lock

A door latch has a control lever operable between an unlocked position permitting normal unlatching of the latch and a locking position preventing unlatching of the latch. A locking lever is pivoted on a housing and operably connected with the lock control lever so that pivoting of the locking lever will operate the lock control lever. The locking lever has a slot receiving a pin carried by a pin control link. An inside lever is pivoted on the housing and operably connected with the inside locking button so that operation of the inside locking button pivots the inside lever. The inside lever has an L-shaped slot, which overlies an elongate slot of the locking lever. A drive pin carried by a control link is captured within the slots. The control link is mounted on a rack which is motor operated. In an extended position of the rack, the control link establishes the drive pin at a position within the slots connecting the locking lever and inside lever for rotation so that movement of the inside lock button between the lock and unlock positions will pivot the inside lever and the locking lever to operate the lock control lever. When the rack is extended by actuating the motor, the control link moves the pin to align with a bypass pocket of the L-shaped slot so that the locking lever remains at rest during movement of the inside lever by the inside locking button.

An electromechanical actuator for an automotive door latch has a selectively activated feature that prevents a rear door from being unlatched by the inside door handle. The feature is electrically activated by a switch or the like that is conveniently located near the driver and out-of -reach of the rear seat passengers.

Door latch actuator

A latch assembly for latching and unlatching a pivotally movable closure panel of an automotive vehicle. A locking lever is pivotally supported by the vehicle for movement between a latched position in which an engaging portion thereof is latched to the striker on the closure panel to hold the latter in its closed position and an unlatched position in which the engaging portion releases the striker to allow the closure panel to be moved toward an open position. A detent lever is pivotally supported by the vehicle for movement between an engaged position in which a stepped portion thereof engages the locking lever to retain the latter in its latched position and a released position in which the first portion thereof releases the locking lever to allow the latter to be moved to its unlatched position. A spring carried by the vehicle has a first leg acting in torsion engaging the detent lever for biasing the detent lever towards the engaged position and a second leg acting as a leaf spring engaging the locking lever for biasing the locking lever towards the unlatched position. In operation, the locking lever is held in the latched position by the detent lever biased in the engaged position by the first leg of spring acting in torsion and when the detent lever is manually manipulable to the released position the second leg of the spring rotates the locking lever to the unlatched position releasing the striker.

A hood latch engages a striker for latching a hood panel movable between open and closed positions relative to a body panel. The striker is mounted on one of the panels. A housing is mounted on the other panel. A pop-up lever is pivotally mounted to the housing for movement between lowered and raised positions. A pop-up spring bias the pop-up lever to the raised position. A latch lever has a hook for latching engagement with the striker. The latch lever is pivotally mounted to the pop-up lever for movement between latched and unlatched positions and has a handle for manually moving the latch lever. A latch spring acts between the pop-up lever and the latch lever to rotate the latch lever towards the latched position. A detent lever pivotally mounts to the housing for releasably engaging and retaining the pop-up lever in the lowered position and preventing rotation to the raised position. A detent spring acts between the detent lever and the housing for biasing rotation of the detent lever towards engagement with the pop-up lever. A cable is attached to the detent lever to rotate the detent lever away from engagement with the pop-up lever to release the pop-up lever from the lowered position. This release of the pop-up lever from the lowered position allows the pop-up spring to rotate the pop-up lever to the raised position. The latch lever and handle are then exposed to allow rotation of the handle.

Pop-up hood latch

A compact, relatively simple hood latch assembly for latching and unlatching a hood of an automotive vehicle is provided in which all the components can be housed in a single housing and which includes only a single pivotal latching lever for providing both a primary latch and a secondary latch.
