A slip form paving machine includes a machine frame, a plurality of ground engaging wheels or tracks, and front and rear height adjustable lifting columns supporting the machine frame from the ground engaging wheels or tracks, the lifting columns being adjustable to adjust a longitudinal inclination of the machine frame in a paving direction. A slip form mold is supported from the machine frame for molding a mass of concrete into a formed not yet hardened concrete slab as the paving machine moves forward in the paving direction. An oscillating beam is supported from the machine frame behind the slip form mold for engaging and oscillating transversely to the paving direction upon an upper surface of the formed not yet hardened concrete slab to smooth the upper surface. A roll size sensor is configured to detect a size of a roll of not yet hardened concrete created in front of the oscillating beam.

Roll control during slip form paving

A slipform paving machine includes an offset mold, including a mold frame, a form insert, a form insert actuator and a form insert sensor. A controller receives a signal from an external reference sensor and controls a position of the form insert actuator to control the height of the form insert relative to the mold frame and thereby control a height of at least a portion of a molded structure relative to a ground surface at least in part in response to the signal from the external reference sensor.

Variable height mold

An adjustable width mold apparatus for a slipform paver includes a center portion and left and right sideform assemblies. The center portion has left and right lateral ends. Left and right adjustable width support assemblies are connected between the sideform assemblies and the center portion. One or more spacers may be received between each sideform assembly and the center portion to adjust the width of the mold apparatus. The spacers may be hung on a plurality of hanger rods. Each of the hanger rods may have a hydraulic nut on one end thereof for clamping the spacers between the sideform assembly and the center portion.

Adjustable width mold

A slipform paving machine includes an offset mold, and a mold frame actuator which allows the height of the offset mold relative to the paving machine to be controlled. Internal actuators within the mold allow corresponding control of side form assemblies to control both height and profile of a resulting slipformed concrete structure.

Variable height offset mold

An inset slip form paving apparatus includes a frame having a front and a rear defining a paving direction. At least one left ground engaging support and at least one right ground engaging support support the frame from a ground surface. An inset mold assembly is located below the frame and between the left and right ground engaging supports. An adjustable support assembly supports the mold assembly from the frame so that the mold assembly is adjustable in position in the paving direction relative to the frame between a retracted position and an extended position.

Shiftable mold

A system for automatically varying the mold width and thus the paving width of a molded concrete slab on the fly as the slab is being molded. An external stringline reference is used to control the height and direction of a first side of the paving machine. A slope sensor is used for automatic control of the height of the second side of the machine frame. A starting point signal generator provides a signal to initiate the automatic width transition. A controller controls width actuators for controlled variation of the mold width in response to the starting signal and a pre-programmed function of the controller.

Variable width automatic transition

A system is provided for varying the width of a molded concrete slab on the fly as the slab is being molded. Position and height of the paving machine relative to an external reference system are determined and controlled using at least two 3D stringless reference objects. An additional sensor provides a signal corresponding to a frame width and thus a concrete slab width, and an actuator controls the frame width actively as the paving machine advances.

Transition on the fly

A self-propelled paving machine includes a plurality of swing legs, each swing leg being supported from a ground surface by an associated crawler track steerably connected to an outer end of its associated swing leg. The machine may be re-oriented from a paving orientation to a transport orientation via a transport conversion mode of an automatic controller configured to spin the paving in place on the ground through a re-orientation angle, then rotate each of the crawler tracks relative to its respective swing leg until each crawler track is primarily oriented in a transport direction generally perpendicular to the paving direction, and then while moving the paving machine in the transport direction pivoting each of the swing legs relative to the frame until each swing leg is oriented primarily in the transport direction. The paving machine may then be driven onto a transport vehicle.
