A distributed video management system for distributed processing and storage of captured video data. The distributed video management system includes a plurality of video cameras that each communicate video data to a respective one of a plurality of camera nodes. Each camera node includes a camera manager for processing video data received at the camera node. The camera nodes are in operative communication with storage resources for storage of the video data in a logical storage volume for the system according to a storage policy. The storage policy may include multiple phases with data pruning for controlled reduction of the size of video data stored on disk. The distributed system may also generate and maintain a ledger or database regarding the captured and stored video data to correlate the video data with system metadata and/or analytical metadata regarding the video data.

Distributed surveillance system with abstracted functional layers

A distributed video management system for video surveillance that allows for monitoring a camera allocation parameter and dynamic reallocation of video cameras to available camera nodes in response to detecting a change in the allocation parameter. As such, the system may provide for load balancing of the processing of video data from the video cameras with reference to the allocation parameter. The change in allocation parameter may be due to a number of potential contexts, including a change in availability of camera nodes, a change in the nature of the video data captured, a change in computational load, or other change that results in a change in allocation parameter. The allocation parameter may be continually monitored to allocate video cameras to camera nodes in the system for enhanced system performance in view of potentially changing conditions.

Parameter based load balancing in a distributed surveillance system

A distributed video management system that allows for monitoring a camera allocation parameter and dynamic reallocation of video cameras to available camera nodes in response to detecting a change in the allocation parameter including selectively dropping at least one camera from the system based on a priority of the camera. The change in allocation parameter may be due to a number of potential contexts including a change in availability of camera nodes, a change in the nature of the video data captured, a change in computational load, or other change that results in a change in allocation parameter. The disconnection or 'dropping' of a camera may be temporary in response to an increase in computational load on the system. The use of priority values of the cameras may allow for sufficient camera coverage to be provided by the system while maintaining processing of video data from higher priority cameras.

Selective use of cameras in a distributed surveillance system

Systems and methods are disclosed for cache data value tracking. In an embodiment, a controller may be configured to select data; set a node weight for the data representing a cache hit potential for the data; store a first time stamp value for the data representing when the data was accessed; and store the data in a cache memory based on the node weight and the first time stamp value. In another embodiment, a method may comprise setting a node weight for data associated with a data access command, storing a first access counter value for the data representing a number of times new data has been stored to the cache memory when the data was accessed, and removing the data from the cache memory or maintaining the data in the cache memory based on the node weight and the first access counter value.

Cache data value tracking

In a particular embodiment, a storage device includes a controller that is adapted to receive environmental data from a plurality of environmental sensors, where the environmental data is related to an operating environment of the storage device. Further, the controller is adapted to receive state information related to the data storage medium from a plurality of firmware detectors, to weight the received environmental data and the received state information according to a pre-determined weighting table, and to dynamically manage at least one attribute of the storage device based on the weighted environmental data and the weighted state information.

Intelligent storage device controller

The present invention reduces the time required for coefficient convergence and thus improves time-to-ready. To that end, the present invention provides an initial learn&#x2014;preferably non-zero&#x2014;coefficient. The initial learn coefficient is based on a translation of timing information to position information. One aspect of the present invention uses address marks of a disc then translates them to phase position information. The present invention measures the times between address marks of adjacent servo sectors. Variations between those times is related is related to disc runout, particularly disc eccentricity. Also, the servo sectors are used to identify at which phase the maximum amplitude (or magnitude) of the timing variations occur. This phase information and maximum amplitude are used as variables in determining the initial learn coefficient. The present invention also utilizes a plant model to predetermine a variable. This variable is used in conjunction with the phase and maximum amplitude variables to determine the initial learn coefficient. Other aspects of the present invention use approximations or statistical values to determine the initial learn coefficient. For example, the maximum amplitude can be based on a clearance between an inner diameter of a disc and a spindle. The phase can be based on a value within a range of phases. The plant model can be changed to include assumptions, approximations or other factors.

Initial learn of adaptive feedforward coefficients

An apparatus and method for tracking radially-dependent repeatable run-out in a disc drive having a servo loop for positioning a head over a rotating disc is provided. The disc includes multiple tracks. Radially-dependent repeatable run-out control components for at least a subset of the multiple tracks are first determined. The subset of the multiple tracks being boundary tracks of established zones of a disc. Data representative of the radially-dependent repeatable run-out control components for the subset of the multiple tracks is then stored in a table. The stored data representative of the radially-dependent repeatable run-out control components is utilized to interpolate or extrapolate the radially-dependent repeatable run-out control components for tracks within a zone or outside of the zones for which data is known.

Radial dependent low frequency repeatable run out compensation apparatus and method

One embodiment of the present invention is directed to a method of aligning servo wedges of a plurality of disc surfaces in a disc drive. This process of aligning servo wedges in a disc drive includes writing multiple servo wedges, one adjacent another, continuously across an entire circumference of each disc surface. Subsequently, one of the disc surfaces is designated the master surface. Every n servo wedge on the master surface is then designated as a master wedge, where n is a positive integer. Next, the servo wedges on the non-master surfaces which are most closely axially aligned with the master wedges are selected. Subsequently, all of the non-selected and non-master wedges are erased.

Method of aligning servo wedges in a disc drive

An apparatus and method of reducing the size of a servo burst and thus increasing the disc surface available for data storage is accomplished by uniquely encoding track information in the gray code of a servo burst on a disc. Each track has a unique sequential track identification number assigned to it. A plurality of sets of servo sectors on each track are encoded with a modulo operation of the track identification number for the track each using a unique modulus. Preferably the sectors are grouped into two sets, i.e., even numbered sectors on each track are modulo encoded with a first modulo operation of the track identification number for the track using a first modulus and odd numbered servo sectors on each track are modulo encoded with a second modulo operation of the track identification number for the track using a second modulus. Decoding the absolute track address is accomplished by decoding the modulo numbers and comparing the even sector modulo numbers to the odd numbered sector modulo numbers.

Dual modulo gray code positioning system

The track follow gain control of an actuator controller is calibrated by injecting a sinusoidal signal into the position error signal during a servo burst interrupt. The injected signal is bandpass filtered to optimize the coherence of the measurement. A sine error signal is derived based on the filtered (sine actual) signal and a sine desired signal. The sine error signal is applied to the track follow gain control to adjust the amplitude of the control signal to the actuator based on the sine error signal. The sine error is derived by averaging the peaks of the filtered injected signal and subtracting the averaged signal from the desired signal which represents the expected error of the sinusoidal signal under ideal conditions. The recording surfaces may be segmented into a plurality of radial zones in which case a central track is identified in one zone on a selected disc surface. The sine error signal is derived for that zone, after which the process is repeated for the corresponding zone of each other recording surface. The sine error signals derived from the several disc surfaces are averaged to adjust the track follow gain control for the common zone of all disc surfaces.
