A sample cooling device for histological samples is connectable to a power network for supplying electrical voltage to the device. The sample cooling device comprises a measuring apparatus for measuring a magnitude of an input line voltage present at the sample cooling device, and a transformer having a primary coil that comprises at least three coil pickoffs, and a secondary coil. The sample cooling device further comprises a switching means that connects two of the coil pickoffs to the power network as a function of the magnitude of the input line voltage, so that a magnitude of an output voltage present at the secondary coil has a predefined or predefinable voltage value irrespective of the magnitude of the input voltage. A corresponding method for supplying electrical power to a sample cooling device for histological samples is also disclosed.

Sample cooling device for histological samples

The invention relates, in accordance with one aspect, to a portable device for transporting at least one histological sample or at least one cassette containing a histological sample. The device is attachable to a processing station for processing 5 histological samples. In the attached state, energy for cooling the histological sample is transferred from the processing station to the device or vice versa. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, a processing station for processing a histological sample is provided, which station is embodied for releasable attachment of a portable device. The processing station is further embodied to transfer energyfor cooling to, or receive it from, an attached device.

Portable device for transporting a histological sample

A freezing microtome for the production of microscopable thin sections of tissue samples (), comprising a cooling device () for freezing the tissue samples (), a cutting device for cutting the frozen tissue samples () and a working chamber, in which the cutting device and at least a part of the cooling device () are arranged is described. The part of the cooling device () arranged in the working chamber contains a liquid coolant (), in which the tissue samples () can be inserted for freezing.
