An air conditioner includes an outdoor section comprising an outdoor coil, a fan, and a refrigerant compressor housed within a cabinet. The cabinet includes an outer wrapper supported by a plastic base. The base and wrapper include features that facilitate the cabinet's assembly and shipping, enhance its appearance, and ensure its functional and structural integrity. For example, the base includes breakaway shipping tabs, lead-ins that help guide the wrapper and coil into position during assembly, and snaps that help hold the wrapper in place with a minimal number of screws. The wrapper includes watertight screw-receiving dimples for mounting electrical hardware, side panels that interconnect by way of a novel vertically sliding fit, and a spacer for protecting the coil from being crushed by the wrapper. A frame that supports the fan also supports the cabinet's top cover.

Damaged end portions of tubes are repaired from a multi-tube finned coil in which the tubes are expanded into intimate contact with the fins. The method consists of removing the damaged end portion of the tube adjacent the area in which the tube projects from the coil body. A replacement stub tube member having one end dimensioned to be similar to the removed end portion and the other end portion dimensioned to be inserted into the coil tube. After the end portion dimensioned to be inserted in the coil tube is arranged therein, a portion thereof is expanded so that its inner diameter is at least equal to that of the tube coil.

A motor mounting arrangement including a ring motor support member secured to the motor. The motor support member has formed integral therewith a plurality of heat dissipating fins for conducting heat away from the motor. Also formed integral with the motor support member are a plurality of arm support elements that are adapted to receive one end portion of cooperating support arms. The other end of the support arms being conveniently secured to a housing wall portion.

The method of joining the contiguous surfaces of telescoped end portions of tube members wherein at least one of the surfaces to be joined is coated with a layer of solder. A heated forming means is applied to the telescoped end portion to reflow the solder while simultaneously applying sufficient pressure in a radial direction to progressively reduce the radial clearance between the end portions in an axial direction toward the open end of the female member. The temperature and pressure applied is sufficient to provide melted solder between the surfaces to be joined as the crimping action proceeds axially so that excess solder is forced hydraulically out of the open end of the female member as the radial clearance is progressively reduced to a minimum. The scrubbing action of the molten solder as it is forced progressively from the radial clearance is effective in removing the oxide from the surfaces to be joined thereby completing a joint between the members.

Method of metallurgically joining tubing

The present invention provides a portable, hand-held tool that is effective in coating the end portion of a metal tube member with a layer of metal. The tool includes a heated tank portion containing the molten metal for coating the end portion, and an ultrasonic transducer for imparting ultrasonic energy to the tube member while the end portion is arranged in the molten metal so that the submerged end portion is scrubbed free of oxide and coated with a layer of metal.
