A surgical stapling instrument is disclosed. The surgical stapling instrument comprises an end effector attachable to an elongate shaft by an articulation joint. The surgical stapling instrument also comprises a longitudinally movable firing assembly comprising a firing bar and a firing member. The surgical stapling instrument further comprises a firing assembly lockout arrangement that is configured to engage a portion of the firing member to prevent distal advancement of the firing member unless an unfired staple cartridge is operably supported in the end effector. The surgical stapling instrument comprises means for applying a firing motion to the firing assembly to drive the firing member from a starting position to an ending position and means for applying a retraction motion to the firing assembly to return the firing member from the ending position to the starting position.

Robotically-driven surgical instrument with e-beam driver

Surgical stapling instruments having surgical stapling cartridges are disclosed. At least one embodiment includes an end effector that has an elongate channel that is configured to operably support a surgical staple cartridge therein and an anvil that is movably supported on the elongate channel between an open position and closed positions in response to an application of opening and closing motions applied thereto. An anvil lock member cooperates with the anvil to retain the anvil in an open position when a staple cartridge has not been installed in the elongate channel and prevent the anvil from moving to a closed position until the staple cartridge has been seated within the elongate channel. Surgical staple cartridges are configured to move the anvil from an open position to an actuatable position when the cartridge has been installed in the end effector.

The an anvil jaw comprises a longitudinal anvil slot and a longitudinal recess extending from the longitudinal anvil slot. The firing member comprises an anvil-engaging portion and a cartridge jaw-engaging portion.

The at least one latch member is configured to removably secure the elongate body to the surgical staple cartridge. The cartridge removal feature is integral with the elongate body. The cartridge removal feature defines a gap that is configured to receive a portion of the surgical staple cartridge. The cartridge removal feature is further operable to remove the surgical staple cartridge from a surgical stapler.

A staple driver actuator for a surgical stapler includes a base having at least one bottom surface. The bottom surface defines a plane and is configured to slide longitudinally relative to a jaw of the surgical stapler. The staple driver actuator also includes a plurality of rails extending upwardly from the base. Each of the plurality of rails includes at least one cam surface, and each of the cam surfaces is inclined relative to the plane. The plurality of rails includes a laterally-opposed pair of outer rails and a laterally-opposed pair of inner rails. The staple driver actuator further includes a distal nose extending distally from at least a portion of the base and having at least one ledge surface. The ledge surface faces upwardly, is parallel to the plane, and is at least partially positioned distally relative to each of the outer and inner rails.

Each cannulae has a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal ends of the cannulae are connected to a separate lumen at the distal end of the manifold, and the distal ends of the cannulae are connected to one of the side-by-side lumens of the tip connector, establishing a fluid communication between the manifold and the distal tip assembly, wherein the side-by-side cannulae are optionally partially connected along their length and are split at their proximal and distal ends.

A surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument can include a first jaw, a second jaw, and a jaw closure lockout system. The first jaw can comprise a pivot pin slot and a slide pin slot. The second jaw can comprise an anvil and, in addition, a mounting portion comprising a pivot pin, which can be movably positioned in the pivot pin slot. A shiftable guide can be movably positioned in the first jaw and can comprise a body and a barrier wall. The body can comprise a slide pin movably positioned in the slide pin slot. The barrier wall can be aligned with a portion of the pivot pin slot when the slide pin is positioned within a range of positions in the slide pin slot, and the barrier wall can be offset from the pivot pin slot when the slide pin is positioned outside the range of positions.

A staple driver actuator for a staple cartridge of a surgical stapler includes a base having at least one bottom surface. The bottom surface defines a plane, and the base defines a longitudinal centerline. The base is configured to slide longitudinally relative to the staple cartridge. The staple driver actuator also includes at least one biasing member. The biasing member is positioned laterally outwardly relative to the longitudinal centerline of the base. The biasing member is configured to exert a biasing force on a portion of the staple cartridge in a direction toward the longitudinal centerline of the base.

A surgical stapling instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises an anvil and a cartridge jaw comprising a channel. A staple cartridge is replaceably seated in the channel. The staple cartridge comprises a longitudinal slot extending from a proximal end toward a distal end, a first longitudinal row of staple cavities extending alongside the longitudinal slot, and second and third longitudinal rows of staple cavities extending alongside the first longitudinal row. Staples are removably positioned in the staple cavities. A double staple driver supports a staple from the first row and a staple from the second row. A single staple driver supports a staple from the third row. A sled comprises first and second camming surfaces configured to drive the double staple driver and the single staple driver toward the anvil, respectively. Distal ends of the first and second camming surfaces are staggered.

Surgical stapling instrument comprising replaceable staple cartridge

A surgical stapling instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises an anvil and a cartridge jaw comprising a channel, wherein the channel comprises a lockout recess defined therein. A staple cartridge is replaceably seated in the channel. A firing member is configured to distally advance a sled during a staple firing stroke. The firing member comprises a first portion configured to engage the anvil, a second portion configured to engage the cartridge jaw, and a lockout portion positioned between the first portion and the second portion. The lockout portion is configured to engage the lockout recess when the sled is not in a proximal position prior to the staple firing stroke. The surgical stapling instrument is unable to perform the staple firing stroke when the lockout portion engages the lockout recess.
