A display system comprises light sources configured to emit first light with a first spectral power distribution; light regeneration layers configured to be stimulated by the first light and to convert at least a portion of the first light and recycled light into second light, the second light comprising (a) primary spectral components that correspond to primary colors and (b) secondary spectral components that do not correspond to the primary colors; and notch filter layers configured to receive a portion of the second light and to filter out the secondary spectral components from the portion of the second light. The portion of the second light can be directed to a viewer of the display system and configured to render images viewable to the viewer.

Color filter arrays

An apparatus and method of presenting air traffic data to an air traffic controller are provided. Air traffic data including a two dimensional spatial location and altitude for a plurality of aircraft is received. A disparity value is determined based on the altitude for each aircraft of the plurality of aircraft. Left and right eye images are generated of the plurality of aircraft where at least one of the left and right eye images is based on the determined disparity value. The left and right eye images are simultaneously displayed to the air traffic controller on a display. The simultaneously displayed images provide an apparent three-dimensional separation of each of the aircraft of the plurality of aircraft on the display.

Stereoscopic 3-D presentation for air traffic control digital radar displays

A four-color transmissive display system incorporates a display having independently variable light sources for different colors, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive and process a three-color input image signal, and provide a four-color output image signal to the display. The controller incorporates units respectively configured to (1) calculate a blue reduction factor for each pixel, dependent on luminance differences between blue and other color components, (2) produce respective saturation adjustment factors for red, green, and blue, (3) apply the blue reduction factor to reduce blue luminance, and apply the saturation adjustment factors to reduce saturation of other colors, (4) produce the output image signal. An optional sensor is operable to provide a control signal to the controller, whereby display power can be reduced. An optional estimating unit is configured to estimate current required to display the input image signal, for adjustment of the output image signal.

Four-channel transmissive display system

A method for controlling an electroluminescent display to produce first and second images for display wherein the second image has reduced luminance to reduce burn-in on the display, includes providing the electroluminescent (EL) display having a plurality of EL emitters, the luminance of the light produced by each EL emitter being responsive to a respective drive signal; receiving a respective input image signal for each EL emitter for each of a plurality of frames; transforming the input image signals for a first frame to provide a plurality of first drive signals to produce an image on the display; and transforming the input image signals for a second frame to a plurality of second drive signals using a dimming transform that operates on the input image signals for each frame to provide a peak frame luminance value for the second frame wherein the dimming transform includes an exponential function.

Method for dimming electroluminescent display

An OLED display with a plurality of pixels for displaying an image having a target display white point luminance and chromaticity, each pixel including three red, green and blue gamut-defining emitters defining a display gamut and a magenta emitter with two of cyan, yellow or white emitters as three additional emitters which emit light within the display gamut; the display including a means for receiving a three-component input image signal; transforming the three-component input image signal to a six component drive signal; and providing the drive signal to display an image corresponding to the input image signal. One embodiment is where the pixels have red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow colored subpixels.

A method of presenting an image on a display device having color channel dependent light emission comprising receiving an image input signal including a plurality of three-component input pixel signals; selecting a reduction color component; calculating a reduction factor for each input pixel signal dependent upon a distance metric between the input pixel signal and the selected reduction color component; selecting a respective saturation adjustment factor for each color component of each pixel signal; producing an image output signal having four color components from the image input signal using the reduction factors and saturation adjustment factors to adjust the luminance and color saturation, respectively, of the image input signal; providing a four-channel display device having color channel dependent light emission; and applying the image output signal to the display device to cause it to present an image corresponding to the image output signal.

Four-channel display power reduction with desaturation

A method of presenting an image on a display device having color channel dependent light emission comprising receiving an image input signal including a plurality of three-component input pixel signals; calculating a reduction factor for each input pixel signal dependent upon differences in luminance between blue and other color components; selecting a respective saturation adjustment factor for each color component of each pixel signal; selecting a luminance gain; producing an image output signal having four color components from the image input signal using the reduction factors, saturation adjustment factors, and luminance gain to adjust the luminance and color saturation, of corresponding components of the image input signal; providing a four-channel display device having color channel dependent light emission; and applying the image output signal to the display device to cause it to present an image corresponding to the image output signal.

Four-channel display with desaturation and luminance gain

A four-color emissive display system comprises a display and a controller. The controller is configured to receive and process a three-color input image signal, and provide a four-color output image signal to the display. The controller comprises units respectively configured to (1) calculate a blue reduction factor for each pixel, dependent on luminance differences between blue and other color components, (2) produce respective saturation adjustment factors for red, green, and blue, (3) apply the blue reduction factor to reduce blue luminance, and apply the saturation adjustment factors to reduce saturation of other colors, (4) produce the output image signal. Four-channel emissive display system

A transparent ceramic composite armor is made of a crystalline transparent ceramic material and an amorphous glass phase material. The armor includes a first portion containing 100 per cent ceramic material; a second portion contiguous and integral with the first portion and containing a combination of the ceramic material and the glass phase material; and a third portion contiguous and integral with the second portion and containing 100 per cent glass phase material. Relative volumetric amounts of the ceramic material and the glass phase material in the second portion are inversely related and a greatest volume percentage of the ceramic material is adjacent the first portion. The volume percentage of the ceramic material in the second portion decreases a direction away from the strike face of the armor, while the volume percentage of the glass phase material increases in the same direction.

Compositionally graded transparent ceramic armor

A display, including a substrate having a display area including first and second non-overlapping pixel groups and a gutter located between the first and second pixel groups, the gutter having a dimension in a first direction separating the first and second pixel groups, and each pixel group includes a plurality of pixels, each pixel having three or more differently colored sub-pixels; and wherein the pixel centers of the pixels in each pixel group are arranged in a regular two-dimensional array having one dimension parallel to the first direction, and wherein the pixels within a pixel group are separated by an inter-pixel separation in the first direction; and one or more electrical elements arranged within the gutter, each subpixel being connected to one of the one or more electrical elements, wherein the gutter dimension is greater than the inter-pixel separation, so that artifacts in a displayed image are reduced.

An area illumination inorganic electro-luminescent device including a substrate; and an array of one or more commonly addressed, light-emitting elements. Each commonly-addressed, light-emitting element includes a first electrode layer formed over the substrate, one or more light-emitting layers formed over the first electrode layer and a second electrode layer formed over the light-emitting layer. The light-emitting layers include multiple core/shell quantum dot emitters formed in a common polycrystalline semiconductor matrix, and a number of different core/shell quantum dot emitters emit light with a spectral power distribution having a peak and a FWHM bandwidth, such that the peak wavelengths differ by an amount less than or equal to the average FWHM bandwidth of the different core/shell quantum dot emitters within the range of 460 to 670 nm.

A method of displaying a video of a scene on a display with reduced motion blur includes: providing the video of a scene having first subframes that have a first input rate and second subframes that have a second input rate, wherein the first subframes correspond to a first region of the display and the second subframes correspond to a second region of the display; and selectively providing the first and second subframes to corresponding regions in the display, and providing the first region of the display with a first update rate and the second region of the display with a second update rate, wherein the first update rate is greater than the second update rate, so that the displayed image has reduced motion blur.
