An example method of assembling a turbomachine airfoil array includes, among other things, securing a partial airfoil array within a fixture, the partial airfoil array having at least one existing airfoil extending radially between an inner and an outer fairing and an open area where at least one existing airfoil has been removed. The method includes mounting a positioning saddle relative to a base of the fixture, the positioning saddle aligned with the open area, holding a replacement airfoil using the positioning saddle, applying a curable material at an interface between the replacement airfoil and the inner and outer fairing, and curing the curable material while maintaining a relative position between the replacement airfoil and the inner and outer fairing.

Method and fixture for airfoil array assembly

A fixture for assembling a stator vane assembly for a gas turbine engine includes, an outer locating ring including a plurality of outer locating pins defining a position for each of a plurality of vanes relative to an outer fairing. An inner locating ring includes a plurality of inner locating rings defining a position of each of the plurality of vanes relative to an inner fairing. A clamp section includes a clamp portion and a clamp pin defining an angular orientation of each of the plurality of vanes relative to each of the inner and outer fairings. An inner locating section supports a plurality of radial locating pins defining a radial position of each of the plurality of vanes relative to the inner and outer fairings.

Assembly fixture for a stator vane assembly

A stator vane assembly includes a vane having an inner end. In one example, the vane is aluminum. An inner shroud has an aperture receiving the inner end. A flexible material secures the inner end to the inner shroud. The material has an inner surface opposite the vane providing a seal land in one example. The inner shroud provides an arcuate inner shroud segment, which is constructed either cast aluminum or stamped sheet steel. An inner shroud segment has an arcuate wall providing multiple apertures, for example. First and second flanges are integral with and extending radially inwardly from a concave side of the wall.

A disclosed fixture for assembling a stator vane assembly for a gas turbine engine includes an outer locating ring including a plurality of outer locating pins defining a position for each of a plurality of vanes relative to an outer fairing and an inner locating ring including a plurality of inner locating rings defining a position of each of the plurality of vanes relative to an inner fairing. A clamp section includes a clamp portion and a clamp pin that define an angular orientation of each of the plurality of vanes relative to each of the inner and outer fairings, and an inner locating section supporting a plurality of radial locating pins defining a radial position of each of the plurality of vanes relative to the inner and outer fairings.

A stator assembly for a rotary machine a stator vane for the assembly are disclosed. Various construction details are developed which facilitate assembly, disassembly and replaceability of the vane. The stator assembly includes a casing having a plurality of flats which adapts the case to engage a corresponding flat on the stator vane.

A stator assembly having an inner shroud assembly formed of an inner shroud and rubstrip is disclosed. Various construction details and features are developed which relate to durability and manufacturing feasibility are developed. In one detailed embodiment, at the rubstrip is bonded to the thermoplastic shroud. The method is applicable to joining an elastomer, such as silicone rubber material, to a thermoplastic substrate.

Various construction details are developed which limit movement of the stator vane into the flowpath by reason of the stator vane being restrained by the shroud. In one particular embodiment, a clip member extends through an opening in the tip of the vane and is disposed at a location adjacent a nonflowpath surface of the shroud to restrain the tip of the vane against inward movement through the shroud.

An insulating device for keeping a container of liquid from losing its thermal content to its environment that can double as a recreational throwing toy. The device is constructed of two open-ended cylinder bodies, one inside the other. The inner cylinder 8 of an insulating material for the purpose of keeping a container of liquid cold (or warm) is adhered to the inner side of the outer cylinder 10 of a stiff, yet flexible plastic composite that provides aerodynamic stability and durability. A uniformly weighted ring 2 encircles the forward end of the device sandwiched between the two cylinders, thus providing a forward center of gravity that produces stability in flight. The forward edge 6 of the device is rounded for durability and aerodynamics, while the rear edge 4 is rounded and slightly tapered to reduce drag while in flight. The device, when propelled through the air and provided with a rotation about its horizontal axis will fly in a smooth and calculatable manner. The device, when slipped over a cylindrical beverage container will provide an insulating property for keeping the liquid within at a desirable temperature.
