A polyurethane prepared with a curative comprising bis-2,2'-dithiodianiline plus a second amine selected from the class consisting of 4,4'-methylene dianiline, bis-4,4'-aniline disulfide, 1,5-diaminonaphthylene and m-phenylene diamine.

Polyurethane composition

Polyurethane can be made having improved heat stability, sufficient to withstand paint oven temperatures by mixing or dispersing about 0.5 to 10 parts or more of an organic monosulfide or disulfides, preferably where the organo radical is a hydroxyl phenyl or hydroxyl alkyl substituted phenyl radical per 100 parts of the polyurethane reactants and reacting to form the polyurethane.

A one component polyurethane precursor suitable as an in-mold coating composition composed of a prepolymer of an organic polyisocyanate with a polyol of a polyether polyol of 2 and 3 hydroxyl groups or a polyester polyol of 2 and 3 hydroxyl groups to give a free NCO content of about 3 to about 15% with a salt complex of a diamine, such as NaCl complex of MDA. The amount of filler and plasticizer, viz, those preferably of the crown or pseudocrown ethers preferably are adjusted to give the precursors a viscosity of about 5 to about 50 pascal seconds at the temperature the precursors are applied, but usually less than about 80.degree. C. These precursors are spread, applied or preferably injected onto the surface of the fiberglass molding viz a polyester or epoxy resin one and pressed at a pressure of about 5 to 200 psi (34,475 to 1,379,000 pascals) and higher at a temperature of at least 80.degree. C. to cure the precursor to give a polyurethane coating on the fiberglass molding.

Improved two component adhesives allowing the components to be mixed at essentially a 1:1 ratio, giving excellent sag resistance, low viscosity, excellent handling ability and satisfactory gel time, said adhesives being composed of a prepolymer composition and a curative composition that can be mixed preferably at 1:2 to 2:1 ratio and a curative composition composed of a mixture of a reaction product of a multiple hydroxyl polyol of relatively low equivalent weight with a small amount of an organic polyiisocyanate and a polyamine.

Storable polypropylene ether polyurethane compositions composed of (a) a prepolymer of a polypropylene ether glycol and sufficient organic polyisocyanate to give preferably an excess of about 3 to 15 percent NCO in said prepolymer with the proviso that the free NCO is obtained from methylenedi-p-phenyl diisocyanate and (b) a complex of an alkali metal salt with 4,4'-methylenedianiline (MDA), said composition being relatively inactive at temperatures below 100.degree. C., but being heat activatible at much higher temperatures to effect a cure. The improved composition wherein a catalyst is present in said composition which effectively lowers the cure temperature, said catalyst being a pseudocrown ether containing radicals having the formula --y--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2).sub.n with y being nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen and n has values sufficient to form the crown structure, viz., at least 3 or more.

A curative for a two component isocyanate or polyurethane adhesive composed of a prepolymer component having about 3 to 15 percent free isocyanate, said curative comprising at least one polyol of about 400 to 6000 molecular weight and a polyamine with at least part of said polyol and said diamine being reacted with an organic polyisocyanate to form micelles that exhibit upon NMR examination strong urea peaks and weak urethane peaks. The curative is useful to make an adhesive that is particularly useful for adhering to metals and polyesters.

A storable flowable polypropylene ether urethane composition having relatively long shelf life at room temperature, readily curing at elevated temperatures to a solid composition and providing a more economic and lower viscosity flowable storable composition useful as gel coats and adhesives.

There are disclosed storable, flowable, liquid polyurethane compositions comprising an equivalent of a prepolymer formed by reacting a liquid material having 2 to 3 hydroxyls with sufficient organic polyisocyanate to give an excess of 3 to 15 percent free NCS in said prepolymer and from 0.85 to 1.15 equivalents of a complex of alkali metal salt with 4,4'-diphenylmethane diamine, said polyurethane compositions being useful as gel coats and adhesives.

An ultra violet light polymerizable composition composed of a water dispersible liquid ethylenically unsaturated polyetherurethane of 0.5 to 5 parts of a photoinitiator and 0.01 to 0.5 parts of triaryl phosphine, the preferred photoinitiator being mono- or di-alkoxy benzoin having alkoxy radicals containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms.

An improved polyurethane obtained by reacting 3,3'-dimethyldiphenyl methane-4,4'-diisocyanate with a polyether polyol and curing with 2,2'-dithiodianiline in the presence of a catalytic amount of triethylene diamine.

Polytetramethylene ether urethane having improved physical properties is produced by reacting polytetramethylene ether polyol with a toluene diisocyanate containing at least 50 percent 2,4 isomer, reacting at a temperature no greater than about 40.degree. C. to produce a prepolymer and curing the prepolymer with 2,2'-dithio dianiline having the formula ##STR1## at a temperature of 105.degree. C.
