The disclosed downed power line status indicator invention serves to protect the public while increasing the ability to repair lines damaged due to an unplanned natural calamity or other incident. In the preferred embodiment, the invention can capture the status of a downed line and if it is energized, provide a local visual arid audible alarm of hazardous conditions to anyone in the vicinity of the downed line. A further benefit is that electrical contact can be made to the substrate. Yet another benefit is that the substrate and wire mesh can be further enclosed in a polymer or other insulating sleeve that is flat and very thin, the preferred form factor is very similar to that of a credit card.

The fire alarm systems ionization type smoke detectors, in addition to detecting the presence of smoke, would also detect the presence of airborne radioactive particles by effecting only a minor software modification. This enhanced detection ability will enable existing fire panels, as well as standalone residential smoke detectors, to detect the presence of radioactive particles such as those that would be indicative of a deliberate terrorist attack from a 'Dirty Bomb' or 'Dirty Aerosol' release, or an non-intentional release of radioactive particles due to an accident or natural disaster.
