One component UV curable compositions and methods for making same

Methods of producing an elastomer are disclosed that include (I) applying an actinic radiation curable composition preferably selected from a urethane (meth)acrylate, an allophanate urethane (meth)acrylate or a lactone-containing (meth)acrylate to a substrate at a thickness of at least 0.25 mm (10 mils); (II) exposing the composition ultraviolet radiation to produce a cured film; and (III) removing the film from the substrate. Related compositions are also disclosed.

Methods for making elastomers, elastomer compositions and related elastomers

Disclosed are one-component compositions that include: (1) an isocyanate-functional urethane acrylate and (2) a polyisocyanate containing allophanate and/or uretdione groups, wherein the one-component composition has a viscosity of less than or equal to about 800 mPa&#xb7;s and an isocyanate content of greater than about 5% by weight, based on the weight of the one-component composition. Direct-to-metal radiation curable compositions

The present disclosure is directed to a process for forming a reinforced ultraviolet (UV) radiation-curable composite. The composite may be formed by applying reinforcing layers and resin layers to a substrate. The resin composition may include an aliphatic urethane acrylate oligomer, a polyfunctional acrylate monomer, and a photoinitiator. The composite formed on the substrate may be exposed to UV radiation to cure the composite on the substrate. The composite may be characterized in that it is cured within 10 minutes of exposure to UV radiation and does not exhibit oxygen inhibition effects, such as, for example, surface tack. The reinforced UV-curable composite may find utility, for example, as a rapid field repair patch in aerospace applications, among others.

Reinforced UV-A curable composite compositions and methods

A method of coating a substrate is disclosed in which a non-aqueous composition is applied to the substrate and then exposed to UV-A light until the composition is substantially cured. The non-aqueous composition comprises an unsaturated (meth)acrylate polymer or oligomer, reactive diluents, one or more photoinitators, an optional solvent or mixture of solvents, and up to 15% by weight of a flattener. A coating is formed having an 85&#xb0; gloss of less than 15.

The present invention is directed to a non-aqueous composition curable by UV radiation broadly comprising a mixture of two UV curable urethane acrylates. The invention is also directed to a coating process using such composition. One of the urethane acrylates is the reaction product of an isocyanate and a specific OH functional lactone ester (meth)acrylate. The other urethane acrylate is the reaction product of an isocyanate and a specific hydroxy functional (meth)acrylate.
