A fuel lance is disclosed for injecting a gaseous and/or liquid fuel mixed with air into an axial hot gas flow flowing through a sequential combustor of a gas turbine, the fuel lance having at least one finger extending in a longitudinal direction into the axial hot gas flow of the gas turbine essentially perpendicular to the hot gas flow. The finger is configured as a streamlined body which has a streamlined cross-sectional profile. The body has two lateral surfaces essentially parallel to the axial hot gas flow. The body includes an enclosing outer wall having a longitudinally extending air plenum for the distributed introduction of air into the at least one finger. The air plenum is provided with a plurality of distributed impingement cooling holes, such that air exiting through the impingement cooling holes impinges on the inner side of the leading edge region of the body.

Fuel lance cooling for a gas turbine with sequential combustion

The invention concerns a method for a part load CO reduction operation and a low-CO emissions operation of a gas turbine with sequential combustion. The gas turbine essentially includes at least one compressor, a first combustor which is connected downstream to the compressor. The hot gases of the first combustor are admitted at least to an intermediate turbine or directly or indirectly to a second combustor. The hot gases of the second combustor are admitted to a further turbine or directly or indirectly to an energy recovery. At least one combustor runs under a caloric combustion path having a can-architecture, and wherein the air ratio (&#x3bb;) of the combustion at least of the second combustor is kept below a maximum air ratio (&#x3bb;).

Method for a part load CO reduction operation for a sequential gas turbine

A vortex generating device is provided as a generally airfoil-shaped lobed body. The flow deflection varies along a spanwise extent, such that the body exhibits a corrugated geometry in a trailing edge region, and the trailing edge exhibits an undulating shape. The undulating shape includes at least one corner. The trailing edge may include or may consist of straight trailing edge sections. The trailing edge may exhibit a polygonial waveform shape, in particular a trapezoidal or rectangular waveform shape. The vortex generating device may be provided as a fuel discharge device which is suited to discharge a fuel into a vortex flow generated by the vortex generating device. To this extent, a fuel supply plenum may be provided inside the body and at least one fuel discharge opening which is in fluid communication with the fuel supply plenum may be provided on the trailing edge.

Vortex generating device

The invention proposes a vortex generating arrangement, especially for a pre-mixing burner of a gas turbine, having an air conducting channel of predetermined height extending between two essentially parallel channel walls and having a predetermined direction of air flow, and having a plurality of vortex generators arranged in the channel. An improved mixing is achieved by the vortex generators each having the shape of a triangular plate, which is arranged essentially perpendicular to the channel walls and oriented relative to the direction of air flow with a predetermined off-axis angle &#x2260;0&#xb0;, and a first side of the triangular plate being oriented perpendicular to the channel walls.

Vortex generating arrangement for a pre-mixing burner of a gas turbine and gas turbine with such vortex generating arrangement

A lobe lance is disclosed for a gas turbine combustor which includes a plurality of N (N&#x2265;4) lobe fingers, each configured as a streamlined body with two lateral surfaces. A plurality of nozzles for injecting a gaseous and/or liquid fuel mixed with air are provided whereby lobes running between the nozzles are provided for improving the mixing quality and reducing pressure loss in said combustor. The lobes of each lobe finger have one of two opposite orientations with respect to said flow direction, and the lobes of all lobe fingers follow a predetermined pattern of orientation across the lobe fingers at least one pair of neighboring lobe fingers has the same lobe orientation resulting in a grouped lobe arrangement ( . . . LL . . . or . . . RR . . . ) such that at least two of the vortices generated by the lobe shape downstream of the lobe fingers combine.

A fuel injection device for a gas turbine can include streamlined bodies arranged adjacent to one another in a circumferential direction. Each streamlined body can have a fuel nozzle on its trailing edge. The streamlined bodies can be split into at least a first group of streamlined bodies and a second group of streamlined bodies. All the streamlined bodies in the first group being the same and being different from the streamlined bodies in the second group. The first group of streamlined bodies includes at least two streamlined bodies adjacent to one another. Alternatively, the streamlined bodies are clustered in sets of two adjacent streamlined bodies. As yet another alternative, the streamlined bodies can be arranged such that the fuel injection device has a maximum of four-fold rotational symmetry in the plane perpendicular to the central axis.

A method is disclosed for operating an axially staged mixer arrangement with dilution air or dilution gas injection in connection with a combustion arrangement of a gas turbine engine or turbo machinery, having at least one combustion chamber, at least one mixer arrangement for admixing air or gas portions to the hot gas flow leaving the combustion chamber. The mixer arrangement includes a plurality of injectors for admixing air portions to cool at least the hot gas flow leaving combustion chamber. The spacing between the last injection location of acting injectors and at least one subsequently arranged dilution air injection, inside of the mixer arrangement in the hot gas flow, where there is no node between the injection locations, corresponds to a distance equal or approximating to half of convective wave length.

The burner of a gas turbine has a duct, a vortex generator extending in the duct and including a leading edge and a trailing edge. The trailing edge has a first order lobed shape. The first order lobed shape is defined by a second order lobed shape. Preferably a nozzle for fuel injection is connected to the vortex generator and the second order lobed shape is only provided at the nozzles.

The invention refers to a reheat burner that includes a flow channel for a hot gas flow with a lance arranged along said flow channel, protruding into the flow channel for injecting a fuel over an injection plane perpendicular to a channel longitudinal axis, wherein the channel and lance define a vortex generation zone upstream of the injection plane and a mixing zone downstream of the injection plane in the hot gas flow direction. The mixing zone provides at least one axially region having different cross sectional areas along its longitudinal axis with continuously changing shape, or having non circular cross section areas which change location along its longitudinal axis by continuously rotation around the longitudinal axis.

Reheat burner and method of mixing fuel/carrier air flow within a reheat burner

A combustor transition can be adapted to guide combustion gases in a hot gas flow path extending between a combustor and a first stage of a turbine in a gas turbine. The combustor transition includes a duct having an upstream end adapted for connection to the combustor and a downstream end adapted for connection to a first stage of the turbine. The downstream end comprises an outer wall, an inner wall, a first side wall and a second side wall. At least one side wall has a side wall extension, which can extend in a downstream direction beyond the outlet. A gas turbine can be retrofitted with such a combustor transition and a gas turbine with such a combustor transition can also undergo a borescope inspection.

Combustor transition

A combustor transition adapted to guide combustion gases in a hot gas flow path extending between a can combustor and a first stage of turbine in a gas turbine is disclosed. The combustor transition includes a duct having an upstream end adapted for connection to the can combustor and a downstream end adapted for connection to a first stage of a turbine, wherein the downstream end includes an outer wall, an inner wall, a first and a second side wall. At least one side wall has a side wall extension which extends in a downstream direction beyond the outlet. The side wall extension at least partly encloses a first resonator volume and at least one side wall extension includes a resonator hole, which is configured as a neck of a Helmholtz-damper. A method for retrofitting a gas turbine and method for borescope inspection of a GT are disclosed.

A reheat burner () includes a channel () with a lance () protruding thereinto to inject a fuel over an injection plane () perpendicular to a channel longitudinal axis (). The channel () and lance () define a vortex generation zone () upstream of the injection plane () and a mixing zone () downstream of the injection plane () in the hot gas (G) direction. The mixing zone () includes a high speed area () with a constant cross section, and a diffusion area () with a flared cross section downstream of the high speed area () in the hot gas (G) direction.

Reheat burner

A reheat burner includes a channel with a lance projecting thereinto to inject a fuel over an injection plane perpendicular to a channel longitudinal axis. The channel and lance define a vortex generation zone upstream of the injection plane and a mixing zone downstream of the injection plane in the hot gas direction. The mixing zone has a cross section with diverging side walls in the hot gas direction. The diverging side walls define curved surfaces in the hot gas direction having a constant radius.

An exemplary burner of a gas turbine includes a tubular body with an inlet for an entrance of an air flow, downstream of inlet vortex generators, and a lance projecting into the tubular body and having a terminal portion extending along a longitudinal axis of the burner which is provided with nozzle groups for injecting fuel into the tubular body. The nozzle groups can lay in an injection plane perpendicular to the axis of the terminal portion of the lance. Downstream of the lance, the burner has an outlet. A ratio x/L between an axial distance x between the side trailing edge of the vortex generator and the injection plane, and the length L of the tubular body can be less than approximately 0.1052.

The burner () for a gas turbine includes a duct () housing a plurality of tetrahedron shaped vortex generators () and a lance () to inject a fuel to be combusted. Within the duct (), a plurality of vortex generators () are provided with a plurality of holes () for injecting cooling air. The cooling holes () define passing through areas that are non-uniformly distributed on a top wall () of the vortex generators (). A method for locally cooling a hot gases flow passing through a burner includes non-uniformly injecting cooling air from a vortex generator into the hot gas flow in the duct, which can reduce the occurrence of flashback in the burner.
