A system includes a plurality of electronic control units (ECUs) and a shared high security module (sHSM) separate from and connected to the plurality of ECUs over one or more private networks. At least one of the ECUs, over at least one of the plurality of private networks, authenticates a session with the sHSM and requests servicing during the authenticated session. The servicing includes encryption, decryption, or authentication, of a message designated to be handled by the at least one ECU and included in the request for servicing. The sHSM receives the message, performs the requested servicing of the message using capabilities onboard the sHSM, and publishes a serviced version of the message to a designated controller area network bus.

Shared hardware security module

This disclosure describes systems and methods for metal foam cooling of vehicle electronic. An example apparatus may include an electronic control unit (ECU) comprising an electronic component included within a housing. The example apparatus may also include a metal foam configured to dissipate heat produced by the electronic component and also configured to facilitate electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding for the electronic component. The example apparatus may also include an interface between the ECU and the metal foam, wherein the interface provides a connection between the ECU and metal foam to facilitate heat dissipation from the electronic component to a location outside of the housing.

Application interface for metal foam cooling of vehicle electronics

The disclosure is generally directed to a metal foam element configured to provide a multi-purpose functionality to an electrical device in a vehicle. An example apparatus in a vehicle includes a module that houses an electrical device. A metal foam element is attached to the module in a configuration whereby the metal foam element provides a multi-purpose functionality that includes a heat dissipation functionality and an antenna functionality. In an example implementation, the metal foam element is attached to the module in the form of a sheet that is dimensioned to operate as a patch antenna for transmitting and/or receiving a wireless signal associated with the electrical device and to provide a heat dissipation functionality for dissipating heat produced by the electrical device.

Multi-purpose use of metal foam in a vehicle

A system for adjusting vehicle mirrors is disclosed and includes a memory device including at least one saved mirror position corresponding with an identified trailer. At least one vehicle mirror is movable to an extended trailering position that corresponds with the saved mirror position. The memory device is part of a controller that moves the vehicle mirror to the saved position responsive to an indication that an identified trailer is hitched to the vehicle.

Automatic trailer detection and vehicle configuration

A vehicle side-view mirror control system includes a pair of extendable side-view mirrors and a controller configured to receive and store one or more trailer identifying indicia and one or more predetermined extendable side-view mirror configurations. The controller is configured to control translation of at least one of the pair of side-view mirrors to a one of the one or more predetermined extendable side-view mirror configurations according to the one or more stored trailer identifying indicia. The one or more trailer identifying indicia define or identify a specific trailer having been previously towed by the vehicle.
