In a method and x-ray apparatus for making and reproducing a radiological tomogram of a subject, the subject is irradiated with radiation emanating from a focus disposed at a known distance from a focal plane, situated at the subject. The focal plane is disposed at a known distance from a radiation receiver, which is disposed in the image plane, and which contains a number of picture elements. In a digital radiological tomogram, either the slice position with the aforementioned distances is allocated to respective picture elements, or a correction factor, based on the slice position and the aforementioned distances, is allocated to the respective picture elements, from which a corrected image is obtained with the subject appearing with a corrected size corresponding to the size of the subject in the focal plane.

In a method and an apparatus for producing X-ray tomograms of the jaw and skull of a patient, a detector arrangement having at least one x-ray detector is provided. The radiation-sensitive area of the detector is a sub-area of the total detector area required for the subject exposure. The image exposure ensues in a number of chronologically separate sections in which, following a first sub-exposure, the detector arrangement is displaced along the longitudinal axis and/or the transverse axis of the detector surface and the diaphragm aperture of the primary diaphragm associated with the x-ray source is simultaneously correspondingly adapted so that the position of the x-ray beam is shifted so that it still strikes the detector appropriately after the detector is displaced.

A dental X-ray diagnostic installation for producing panoramic tomograms of the jaw of a patient is provided with a multiple diaphragm part having a plurality of different diaphragm apertures which can be adjusted to be positioned into a beam path from the X-ray source to enable producing different exposures. Preferably, the multiple diaphragm part is mounted for rotation on an axis so that the diaphragm apertures can be respectively aligned to the beam path of the radiation source. The multiple diaphragm part can be either a one-piece diaphragm member having a cylindrical configuration, a multiple piece member having a disk configuration, or can be a box-shaped carrier carrying a plurality of diaphragm inserts.

An x-ray diagnostic installation for producing panoramic tomograms of the jaw of a patient utilizes a flexible film cassette instead of a rigid film cassette. The film cassette is driven by an electromotive drive arranged in a housing of a film cassette holder behind a secondary diaphragm as seen in the direction of the radiation from a source of radiation. The drive is formed from by at least one drive element, and at least one cooperating element arranged thereto at a distance therefrom with means biasing at least one of the elements towards the other to produce a frictional engagement of the film cassette and move it past the secondary diaphragm.
