A system for identifying a wireless security threat on a vehicle. The system includes a broadband controller including a data processor and memory in which the broadband controller provides a network within the vehicle. The system includes a vehicle WAP in communication with the broadband controller in which the WAP broadcasts an SSID for use by a PED to establish a wireless communication link and transmit and receive data wirelessly over the network via the WAP. An SSID scanner periodically scans for SSIDs broadcast in the vehicle in which SSIDs detected during scans are communicated to the broadband controller. For a detected SSID corresponding to the vehicles WAP SSID, logic executed by the data processor compares the BSSID of the vehicle WAP with the BSSID from the detected SSID and if the BSSIDs do not match, the logic identifies a security threat.

Identifying and disabling a rogue access point in a public wireless environment

Methods and systems for a transportation vehicle are provided. For example, one method includes storing or installing a security certificate in a portable device associated with an aircraft, the security certificate defining a duration for using the portable device for remotely accessing an aircraft computing system; obtaining the security certificate from the portable device, after validating a request from a user console; and providing the security certificate to the user console to access the aircraft computing system via the portable device for no longer than the duration defined by the security certificate.

Methods and systems for monitoring computing devices on a vehicle

A system and method for permitting a user to submit a payment electronically, which includes a network and an electronic device in communication. The electronic device is operated by the user to submit an electronic payment request. A first server in communication with the network receives the request and in response communicates an encryption key and process to the electronic device. The electronic device encrypts the financial information with the encryption key and process and communicates encrypted financial information to the first server. A second server is in communication with the first server at least some of the time via an Internet connection. If there is Internet connectivity, the first server communicates the encrypted financial information to the second server. If there is no Internet connectivity and the payment amount is less than a predefined amount, the first server communicates to the electronic device that the payment has been accepted.

System and method for permitting a user to submit a payment electronically

A system for providing network security on a vehicle information system and methods for manufacturing and using same. The security system comprises an all-in-one security system that facilitates security system functions for the vehicle information system. Exemplary security system functions include secure storage of keys used to encrypt and/or decrypt system data, security-related application programming interfaces, a security log file, and/or private data. The security system likewise can utilize antivirus software, anti-spyware software, an application firewall, and/or a network firewall. As desired, the security system can include an intrusion prevention system and/or an intrusion detection system. If the information system includes a wireless distribution system, the security system can include an intrusion prevention (and/or detection) system that is suitable for use with wireless network systems. Thereby, the security system advantageously can provide a defense in depth approach by adding multiple layers of security to the information system.
